C1 LE New version DOWNGRADE??

Thank you Michael.

As a user of C1 LE I was feeling VERY VERY bad with all this situation.

Thank you for your help

Nelson
(Rio de Janeiro)
There will be a new release of C1-LE and C1-SE next week. In that
release the following will be restored:

--16 bit output capability (SE already has this)
--Noise Reduction Sliders
--support for 3rd party profiles

I have been asked to convey the regrets of Phase One management for
the confusion and mess that this release has caused our valued
customers. Without going into details, there were some internal
management procedures that obviously did not work correctly, and as
a result a release not worthy of the C1 name and our loyal customer
base was released.

On behalf of P1, please accept our apologies, and understand that
we appreciate that our customers voiced their opinions strongly and
loudly, such that we could rectify this situation in a timely
fashion. Please be assured that top management has committed itself
to never letting this happen again.

Personally I appreciate the support shown to me by the customer
base, and likewise to the top management for so quickly reversing
to what is the obvious correct course.

There will be a release next week as stated, and also a planned
maintenance release in June that will add Olympus support and
hopefully some new features as well (but no promises).

One of the goals of this current release was to set the internal
working of the Windows platform such that new features and
performance enhancements can be added in a more timely fashion. Our
next major release will be in October.

Thanks for you support and understanding and we hope that you
continue to gain the beneifts of the C1 RAW workflow, which we are
committed to keep improving such that we maintain our preminance in
the field.

Again, we regret this situation, and look forward to moving forward
with you, and never to repeat this occurance.

I was shocked originally to here that there was no 18-bit support in the new C1-LE "upgrade" and immediately recognized that it would have been a downgrade even from C1-Rebel.

Now that you've really stepped up to the plate and solved the problem, I look forward to upgrading to C1-Le within the next couple of weeks.

Again, thank you.

Good news!

Thanks for all of your efforts Michael. A wrong has been righted.

Also, thanks to all of the forum members who joined in and helped
voice our displeasure. Someone earlier eluded to the "squeaky
wheel" and this was a fine example.

Hopefully they won't try and pull a stunt like this again... :)
I have been assured by the CEO that the lesson has been learned and he has personally committed to not repeat this incident in the future.

First let me start with the standard disclaimer that I understand MichaelT is just the spokesperson and not the decision maker, so these comments are not directed at him.

While it's good to see that P1 has corrected this incredibly bad decision, I'm concerned with the fact that they had to find out this way that it was a bad decision.

As I understand it, the reason they employ Michael is to have an advocate speaking for us. I infer from previous posts that Michael didn't agree with this decision as well. That either means a) they didn't listen to him or b) they didn't tell him until it was too late.

Either situation indicates to me that the decision makers at P1 are either incapable of or not interested in knowing the needs of their customer base.

Michael states that there were some internal management issues that didn't work, and I can actually understand that. However, putting 16 bit support back into the product isn't fixing the real problem in my mind. For me to continue to give my money and support to P1 I have to see that those internal management issues are what has been fixed. Until then, I simply won't trust that the company won't make a similarly bad decision in the future, or are making them right now.

Saying that the issue has been fixed is not enough. Talk's cheap, it's results that count, and at this point it's going to take 2-3 upgrades worth or results before I'll trust P1 with my $$$.

You are certainly right. All I can tell you is that the apology came directly from the CEO and he specifically told me to tell our customer base of his embarrassment, and that he would not let this happen again. So while, this still falls into the talk is cheap catagory, I think it note worthy when a CEO goes on record as he has. I offered to be his spokesman based on langauage barriers and the fact that I am know here.

So I, like you would watch carefully, but personally, and you know how close I was to the edge, I am positively inclined to take him at his word. I can certainly tell you that "I won't be fooled again" to quote the Who (if I have that right). I feel that in some weird way this was a watershed moment for P1 in their development.

Well, he's done it - used our outrage to change the company's mind. How many times does THAT happen?

But let's be fair and give Michael all he's due. Go to RawWorkflow.com to buy C1. C1 Pro is cheaper there, and SE and LE can be bought with attractive bundles. Michael and the buyer both win.

He's earned it. (Still can't believe he got PhaseOne to change in ONE day!)

Michael,

I am glad that Phase one is rectifying the technical issues.

When I heard about the late breaking news about 8-bit LE, I questioned Phase Ones integrity.

Paragraph #2 below is a blantant lie, so I trust Phase One now even less. Their explanation of the crippled release implies there was a quality control issue. Everyone can clearly see that they were trying to increase revenue by forcing people to upgrade. IS UPPER LEVEL MANAGEMENT TRYING TO SAY THEY DID NOT KNOW WHAT WAS IN THE NEW RELEASE?

I appreciate that they are going to put out a real upgrade within a week, and I appreciate they apologized, but I do not appreciate them lying to us yet again. HAVEN'T THEY BEEN UNDERHANDED ENOUGH FOR ONE DAY?

You don't fix integrity issues with lies. Obviously they haven't learned anything today...

Even with the real update coming, I think I will take another look at the other Raw Converter packages available. After all, I have a week to check out the competition, and they can't be near as underhanded as Phase One has been with this release and with their false explanation.

With Regrets,

You have done a sensational job representing your customer base, Michael. It is great that someone like you is able to be a mediator between the upper management and the rest of us.

I am sure your and P1's timely addressing of this issue will be rewarded with a happy, loyal customer base.

Great work!!

Again, Michael, thanks for your diligence in getting this sorted out in such a satisfactory way :-).

I would be interested to know if P1 now intends to still offer support (or at the very least reactivation) for previous versions of C1. As I stated earlier in this thread, I have had to wipe my hard drive and reactivate C1 a couple of times and would like to know I still have that option if my HD gives me any more problems.

PD2004,

The "internal management issues" imply that Management did not know what was being put out in thier release. Obviously this is a lie. The omitted features were omitted in an effort to make people upgrade which would increase revenues.

Think about it. One of two scenarios happened. Either management did not know what was going out in thier major upgrade which makes them idiots. Or they knew what was happening, and now claim it was a mistake so they don't look greedy. The latter of course makes them liars.

Phase One can decide which it is, but really I don't care. No one wants to put thier long-term photo processing plans in the hands of idiots or liars. The end result is that they have lost a lot of customer trust and support.

Assumming that this is this is the paragraph in question...

"Without going into details, there were some internal management procedures that obviously did not work correctly, and as a result a release not worthy of the C1 name and our loyal customer base was released."

What was meant was not that it was not known what was in the release, but the powers that allowed the release to be what it was should not have allowed it to go out with the known feature set (or lack of). Again without going into details, what is meant by the paragrpah above is that P1 blew it, and they have to put controls into place to prevent the decision process from occurring again.

Are we square now?
