Are any 10D owners still shooting film?

I have e-mailed people pictures I have taken with them!

It's easy and they have a file they can print a poster with!

CanonKen and I are at a party. I have my Spectra and CK has his 10D.

The host says , "Hey guys, take some shots of my kids, will ya?"

Al Pacheco: Click, click, click... "Here you go"

Host: "Hey, thanks, I'll stick one on the fridge and give a few to the wife"

CanonKen: Click, click, click, click "I'm getting some good shots" Click, click...

Host: "Can we see them? That's a great camera! Can I try it?"

CanonKen: "I'll e-mail them to you. And you can print out poster size prints from them!"

Host: "Wow..you can do e-mail from that camera! I want one! Can I try it"

CanonKen: "Well, no, you'll have to wait until I get home. I need my computer and then I'll e-mail the files to you and you can print them."

Host: "My stupid computer isn't working right...can you help me set the e-mail up? And I don't have a printer...can I still get the poster somehow? Can't you make one for me? And can I try that camera of yours?"

CanonKen: "Uh, no...I think my memory card is full"

Al Pacheco: "Here...use the Polaroid"

Host: Click, click..."Digital is amazing, Al, isn't it? Say, can you help me with my e-mail?"

The end

I haven't shot a roll of film for over a year. I have a D60 and have had it for two years, it is great, I just bought a 10D and it is better with higher ISO rating and other options thayt I really like. w As a stringer for the local weekly thats rated the best in Maine & with the D60 I have won a second place in the weekly newspaper categories for the state of Maine in sports and a third place in scenics for the same newspaper category. Both were digital D60 pics. I have taken full moon shots that show the craters with the 100-400 is zoom and the digital process leaves this old man in wonderment of the advances in photography since I was developing and doing contact prints from my old 620 camera at 12 years of age. I am not going back its too much fun with digital.I hope you enjoy it as much as this 69 year old guy.

Yes , I wanted a decent back up for my 10D, and couldn't justify
the expense of another 10D, (or 300D), so I bought a Canon EOS 30
second hand for around £140 (good film cameras are dirt cheap
nowadays), it has a similar feel to the 10D, and the dials function
similar. It also means I can shoot my 17-40mm f4L at a true 17mm.
And the £1,000 I've saved will pay for years of infrequent
occasions I shoot film.
Most importantly, it has slowed me down somewhat, and forced me to
give time and reflection to a particular shot, which is no bad
thing.
--Yes, I will be using my Elan II's in addition to my 10D on photo safari's (see my pbase.com gallery link below for a few safari slides scanned to CD) . I want some slides to show and "real" backups for my digital images (even though they ar backed up several ways).

Les, you have brought up an important point that I have tried to pay a lot of attention to (i.e. if I didn't have a digital camera that easily allows me to dispose of so-so pictures, would I actually waste time and money on this shot using film). It is remarkable how picky you get when you stop and question each scenery photo opportunity.

However, when it comes to wildlife/zoo type of shots, you can't get enough shots to capture just the right expression in an animal's eyes. This arena is where digital film provides MAJOR benefits towards getting a high quality image. Well, at least I try to get a high quality shot - unfortunately, I'm not usually successful.

Best regards and have a nice weekend.

--Also, I bought the 10D because it was so intuitively like the Elan II configuration that it is an easy transition to move from one camera to the other, not to mention swapping lenses back and forth. I think these two cameras are a great combination.

I bought a 70-200L 2.8 and I'm thinking I should have got the IS version especially with my 2X extender, but maybe I was just saving myself for the 100-400 IS.

I shot a dog sled race this morning and I'm off to a snow-machine race in a few minutes. I shoot digital for work but I always carry a Leica with a 35mm lens and tri-x. I will never stop documenting day-to-day life with my "notebook." Here's an example:

--Only the Kenya-Tanzania pictures are slides scanned to CD. The rest on my gallery are from my 10D and G3. I struggle with the right amount of sharpening on images from both film scans and digital, but the slide scans are tricky as they have to be resized so drastically. If anyone has any suggestions after looking at these, please let me know. I can use all the help I can get!

Yes, I've actually gone back to shooting 4x5 for B&W landscapes. 10D for other work.
I'm just curious if any one is still shooting film after having
lived with the 10D for a while. I have an original Canon F1 I
bought new in 1975 or 76 (I think), an AE-1, two T-90's and a lot
off good FD lenses. I'm just wondering if I'll still find any use
for these now that I have the 10D and good EF lenses ??Thank you.

I love shooting film as well as shooting digital. I took my 10D, 24-85 and 35 f/2 lenses and my GA645Zi (think medium format point and shoot) in a backpack to the Franklin Institute. I always try to have an option to shoot film. I like grainy high-iso B&W, and Velvia/Provia slide film (although I'm not good at shooting that yet).

It's funny, though. I really only truly learned what I wasn't doing by using a D60 two years ago. Now I'm really into film as well, and starting getting into development.

My biggest wishlist right now are a medium format scanner ($$$$) and a Mamiya 6 to replace th Fuji 645 (the lens is f/6.9 at the longest). I feel I've matured my 35mm format shooting (equipment, technique, what I can get out of it) and now I'm pushing my limits with medium format.

What's it like shooting 4x5? I just can't imagine what you can do with a negative of that size. I looked at your galleries--love the waterfall 4x5 Toyo shot.

Hi Dr. Tom,
I'm just curious if any one is still shooting film after having
lived with the 10D for a while.
...only live with 10D for a very short while, 3+ weeks, but have shot and will shoot slides with EOS33, and B+W with A-1 I bought new in 1979 ;-))

Maybe not for all, but if any of these FD's are 'L' type WA-lenses, you will find use for the F1, don't loose your 'firstborn' ;-))

Had in the past an AE-1 Program and a T90 until bought my EOS620. Nowadays, have at the side of my 10D my trusty EOS3 (well... is my second EOS3 body, first was stolen).

No matter how megapixels will have. To start to compete with the picture quality of a 35mm film camera, we need to have > 44 Mpixels, so film is still on my life (well a lot less but still has their own place).

It is quite a change in pace shooting 4x5, compared to the 10D. I scan the negatives (mostly Polaroid type 55) on an Epson 3200 and print with an Epson 2200 and MIS UT inks. Incredible detail and sharpness. I'm looking forward to making 16x20 prints on an Epson 4000 later this spring (hopefully).
