Faces behind the camera (cont'd)..

Hey Fernando, Nice rest-stop location!!! (top photo)
I hope I do not come late, but finally I found some photos from me
(taken by friends). I prefer to make the photos instead of being on
the photo.

After a long walk getting some energy - last year

Hi John

Glad you enjoyed the link, now you can see how far I have to go to be a really good photographer (if ever) but I will keep trying. Thanks for keeping my secret, you can understand now why I couldn't use the rule of thirds in some cases :-) You certainly will see me around this forum for quite some time as I really enjoy it very much. I can't wait for the next competition. Good luck with this one.
Kind Regards
Rene
G'day Rene,

Thanks for the link. Some good shots there and even some familiar
ones. I included some comments against your wonderful sunset shot
at the start of your Surfers gallery. I haven't been back to
Surfers for a good while now, but my wife and I have got to travel
a bit and we lived in the UK and USA for nearly 6 years all up.

I looked a bit further and what did I find in the PNG gallery but
the real description of one of your 'Alone' entries? Our secret,
right?! LOL

I hope the weather doesn't interfere too much with your attempts to
finish whatever you need to do in PNG and get back to Oz in a
reasonable timeframe. I haven't visited PNG, but I am well aware
from others what you mean by it not being a place for the faint of
heart. Yikes! :o(

Anyway, I look forward to seeing you and your work around the MTF. :o)

Hello Dimz
Thanks for the comments on the pictures.

We have been in PNG since early December my husband is a Project Manager and we are extending an airport runway here. We visited the village to see a Mumu being cooked. A Mumu is the same as a Hangi food cooked in the ground. The PNG people have a superstitution that if you kill a pig it will ward off evil spirits. We have been having appalling weather which has been hampering our job, so to keep the locals happy we (not us personally yuk!!) the locals killed a pig to ward off the evil spirits causing the extremely bad weather, which by the way didn't work. Anyway at least the locals did get a very good meal that day. This kind of belief is very similar in other countries where we have worked, a chicken was killed in Laos, a cow in Thailand and also a pig in the Philippines.

If you go into my pbase website http://www.pbase.com/rl you can see more of our visit to the PNG village, which I must say was quite an experience.
Kind Regards
Rene
What you doing in Papua New Guinea? ( i mean, I'm assuming there
is a reason someome has gone to a village there :) )

Nice pictures though. Thx!

Barry, great thread.
It really is wonderful to put a face to a name. There have been
quite a few people who have given me advice on my posted photos and
I must say all advice has been much appreciated. Here are a couple
of my photos.

Taken last year on my balcony in Surfers Paradise. Sorry guys I
can't compete with the beer shots, but we do make some beautiful
wines down here.

We are currently living in Papua New Guinea, this photos was taken
last week in a local village.
Thanks again everyone for a great forum.
Regards
Rene

Hey Fernando, Nice rest-stop location!!! (top photo)
Thanks Sol.

I was on my second day of journey until the top of "Zugspitze" (highest mountain on Germany) - and at this time every place was a nice place.

In my gallery ( http://www.bytephoto.com - user name Fernando Valente) under the title of "Landscape" I've some more photos that I took from this journey.

Hi Philippe,

My wife and I visited Arromanches in about 1992 and probably sat in that same restaurant, unless it has all changed since then. Of course, we did not have a digicam back in those days, but we got some memorable pics of the remnants of the landing with our Nikon SLR.

Hi Matt,

I was hoping you would drop in to expose yourself too!

I guess I will have to wait until later to see whether I have any nightmares. However, my wife has just returned from being away for a few days on a work trip, so somehow I don't think I'll be thinking too much about the pic of you flat out at work. ;o)

Cheers, Matt.

spot on John, interesting you mention the lack of AS, a colleague of mine just picked up my camera, and said "say cheese", so this guy had just picked up me A1 for the very first time, with no instructions had managed to shoot a half decent image, i've no idea what the camera was set at, but it just goes to show that some one with no knowledge at all can get pics out of the A1.
in keeping with both the thread and St Pats day......

dsl,

Just looking at your pic makes me feel like I've had a few
Guinnesses! ;o) No AS at work there?

Hi John,

Arromanches is a nice little town, full of tourists on beautiful days, and also full of history.
Happy to have brought to you some good memories.

There you go John, a better shot, a "self" laying on the floor, on board flash, ps usm, curves, and touch of gaussian blur for good measure, i wish i had enough money to purchase some external lighting, ya de ya de ya.....

Hi Simon,

I think I liked the fun aspect of your original post more, but it is great to see you trying some different stuff. I find it fun to play around with different features of PhotoShop Elements 2 and can appreciate your efforts here. However, given the DOF, if I was taking the shot, I would have concentrated on making sure your eye was in focus at least. Actually, I probably would have gone for a slightly greater DOF to take in your nose to your eye at least. The gaussian blur certainly separates your face from your hands and shirt, but looks a bit unnatural from where I sit. Your St Pat's pic, on the other hand, is exceedingly natural. Thanks for the follow-up post.
