Please share your Max Wow Factor images and their technique here

your photos are great! how do you like the Sigma? is it really
big? Sharp wide open? do you have any 100% crop if it, not
resized or post-processed?
Thanks for the kind words. The Sigma 100-300 is just a tad larger than my Canon 70-200L IS. It is very useable wide open, its characteristics are very close to the Canon L. Very sharp, great contrast with super color saturation.

My best "wow" picture with the DR and Kit-lens...

http://www.pbase.com/image/24613082
I was browsing pbase today and I've come accross some great pics
taken with the dreb. I've spent yet another weekend at home because
of the weather and I'm looking for new ideas to try out. It would
be nice if people posted their Max Wow Factor images (or personal
favourites) here and included the equipment and technique. That
will really help others learn and give me something useful to do :)

Sadly enough, so far I don't myself have an image that I could give
high marks on the wow factor...but hopefully soon...

Please participate :)

I have always thought that nothing can capture the WOW factor like a good lightning shot. This one is a VERY lucky shot that I caught a while back with my Nikon 990 (pre 300D). The Nikon would get very noisy with a long exposure so I kept my shots this night at 1 second. I took about 300 shots and this was the only one that actually captured a strike and I was lucky enough to get two for the price of one nearly centered right where I was aiming. This is uncropped.

How did you do the first one?

And here's my favorite picture with my old S45:

Wow Pauly
I really admire your bird shots :)
This is a great shot in every detail

I like the cropped version better where the detail of the water spray comes out. Good work man!
Taken in aperture priority using the 400mm f5.6L, when they get a
fish they take a second to come up out of the water with it, this
is that second, i'm assuming they are making sure they have a good
grip on the fish. I have seen an osprey catch a fish that made the
bird do a complete 360 turn in the water.

here's a closer crop of the same pic.

This is an amazing shot. The force of the strikes is sobering.
I wish I can take a similar picture some day

How this one?

This was taken in a church so it wasn't too hard to get the black background. , I was about 3-4 feet away. I zoomed all the way in.
I've learned to use the histrogram more than the photo.
I hope you like

Thankyou, I was thinking about cropping a little above the rain clouds but I don't think I will.
Thanks again,

Johann,

I used a channel mixer layer to convert to B&W: settings were 80/10/10 R/G/B if I remember.

Aboutmoods,

I took 30 30s exposures spaced at 30s intervals (total elapsed time: 1 hour), the stacked them using Max Lysons' ImageStacker program in brighten mode (take the brightest pixel at each location). The 30s intervals are the reason for the dotted trails.

Cheers,
Daniel
