4 Shots from today's outing ...

In most of the shots, the WB was perset. I admit that I had to redo it a few times, light changes a lot in winter. Cloudy -2 was also dead on in a few shots.

The 24-85 is a really good all around little lens.
Did you preset the WB?

You make me want to get the 24-85. It's a really sharp lens.

I did shoot with it as a test. I like the handling and the VR. I did not like the Bokeh when wide open though. I found it a little rough.

VR is tasty though. For me and this is very personnal, I don't require VR under 200mm. That doesn't mean it is not useful for ultralow shutter speed. Sharpness was OK when stopped down.
The 24-120 has other advantages the 24-85 lacks ... (VR)

In general, I like the 24-85, it has become my most used general
outing lens.
I see in your profile that you do not have the 24-120. Have you
shot with it? Tried it out, considered it?

Yes because it was used in the process but I have now developped a prototype with other materials including the famous pringle lid cap.

I'll give more infos when my prototype will be final and tested thouroughly

I will test it against the ExpoDisk as well as I have received a new ExpoDisk Sample that seems to work very nicely.
Did you preset with the Pringles lid?

From memory, I am not so sure. When I get home tonite, I'll go back
in my action and retrace the exact steps. It is very easy to do but
having no Photoshop in this computer, I don't want to lead you in
any wrong direction.
I love the horse shot. Could you share your technique on the three
diminsional framing with the shadow on the bottom and right.

....a really great value.
I have it as the standard lens on my backup F80.
On my D100 I prefer the 17-35 / 35-70 combination.

Looks like I will finally be selling my F80, so the 24-85 will probably also end up on that Big Auction Site in the Sky.....pity in a way....

All done with Nikkor 24-85 AF-S 3.5-4.5 (That lens amazes me)
The closer Horses shot done with internal fill flash (in D-TTL)

It was very cold (-33 with the wind) but we couldn't resist the
fantastic light that was calling us. I went with a good friend of
mine (MLR Photo his wife and kids 2 +_ my little one)

We had a real ball.

I use very low setting or low settings in the Sharpening software I am usually using, in the camera, it is always set to normal except when I do portraits with older people.

My sharpener tool was not used in these shots.
(center weighted on central scene, how ???? Sorry for my
curiosity. LOL)
On the camera, there are 3 metering functions, center weighted,
matrix and spot.
I almost alwats use Center weighted because my exposure is more
accurate. I point at the scene and clic. That simple.
  • glad that is what you meant, thought I was missing something.
LOL..........I predominately use centre weighted.......
( do you normally use normal in camera sharpening???)
Always, it is a good start to look into the LCD of the D-100 and
determine if an image is sharp or not.
Yves, I thought I read some where you used low sharpening?? Well
will have to try it, prefer to do less sharpening in NC and on low,
you have no choice but too........

Thanks as always :^)
