did somebody call for ice water? (sony f828 images)

Andy,

Thanks so much for sharing these. Your work not only gives me
wonderful ideas but inspires me to try to take better photos.

Regards, Bill_W.
thank you, bill! i'm pleased you like my work. now get out there, and show us some of your stuff ;)

andy

hi tof, first, thanks for the kind comments ;)

about the color... this is the coloring of the water & ice as it is here... i think that you see the effect of perhaps algae? also, there was no direct sunlight (it was 430pm and the sun was setting behind the mountain) so there was only the fading overcast sky...this could contribute to the coloring of the water & ice.

i've noticed that sometimes ice shows up blue, sometimes clear, sometimes aquamarine, and other colors. that's why i like to shoot it so much, there's always something new to experience ;)

i hope this answers your question?

thanks again,

Andy I never miss your posts, and I know why ! Great pictures !

The water has a slightly greenish tint in the 3 colour shots. Is
this intentional ?

Thanks (again !) for sharing with us. Your pictures are really
inspiring.

well, i just like to take pitchas... so i have to deal with the weather that is given me up here in new york ;)

hehehe
The one thing I admire more than your beautiful pictures is your
"get up and go" regardless of weather. I'm just not that dedicated
to photography.

Cheers!

hey doug,

the 828 is going to be a good addition to your kit. you'll appreciate the swivel body, evf, fast shutter & focus, great lens, and the "all-in-one" nature of this camera.

thansk for stopping by and for the kind words... looking forward to some of yoru photos wtih the 828 :)

andy
...is that my 828 is due to arrive here mid-week, and I'm gonna do
a lot of searches of your posts to get some insight into how you
use the 828 in terms of setting, technique, etc. Of course, your
images are great in terms of the artistic side of things, and
that's definitely the priority, but I continue to be astounded at
their apparent technical quality that you and the camera produce
(or at least what I can tell from the smaller web samples you post).

I've got this 10D sitting over on my desk, and it's starting to get
just the slightest bit nervous. It denies it.

Doug

press the wb button, rotate the jog dial to "white balance set" and then fill the frame with snow, in this case, i used the snow to set the white balance. then you press in on the joystick, and voila, the wb is set manually.

you can use a card, or white balance disc as well.

Hi Andy, juz wanna ask you, how do you set for manual white balance
for f828 & what are the procedures to do it. Thanks a lot

Very nice images.

take a look (maybe again?) at the croton gorge. this is a dam /
spillway that regulates the water supply around here, and it's a
part of the reservoir system that feeds into new york city's water
system.

sony f828, tripod mounted. two-stop nd filter and a polarizer used
(i wanted to use a long shutter speed.... and i still haven't
replaced my broken one-stop nd filter from the train shoot day).
iso 64, f/8, shutter speed 1.3 seconds. shot in the fading light
around 430pm today.

this is the whole scene, and b&w felt right for it...

the subtle colors are really appealing. we take what we can get in
ny in the winter....

i thought this ice formation resembled a floppy-eared dog's head..

enjoy (below zero) photography,
