Once again! Please Phil, split this forum..

to keep in mind is that while the D70 will bring in a lot of unexperienced new people, and it will also bring in a lot of very talented film photographers that have been waiting to make the switch to digital.
As far as spitting the forums though, right now I don't have an opinion.

Now that the D70 will shortly hit the streets and the D2X is going
to be announced very soon, I think it's high time to split this
forum into two seperate forums: D1/D2 series forum and
D100/D70/D100X(whatever?) forum. It's not the first time I'm
raizing this appeal to Phil Askey but IMHO now is the time. What do
you think?

Would you post your company's research on the web?

But if you're good at math, do the numbers. How many professional photographers are there who use a d1x? Now, how many have been produced?

If the amateur to pro ratio wasn't at least 20x, they'd be at a price point like the medium format digital backs. Go talk to your friendly camera shop salesman, and ask them how many they sell to working pros.

Many of the design changes from D1 to D1x were tested to see if they would make the camera more attractive to the consumer market. I had the pleasure of having some of Nikon's focus groups for it going on in a room next to groups I was watching on banking. Some of their "screener" questions for recruiting the focus group attendees were ownership of CoolPix, desire to upgrade, amount of money willing to spend. The camera body in the room was a D1.
Nikon's own survey research doesn't support that.

.... stupid people paying for a D2x when the D70 is as good if not better and I am very picky.

D70 is all I need.

6MPs more than enough.

For the money, D70 way ahead of D2x.

D2x only for the snobs.

Guess what, was shooting with my rich mate, and my D70 blew his D2x away.

Made side by side 10x8s and I cannot see the extra three grand for the D2x over my D70.

I bought two D70s, man is the D2x a heavy monster.

I saved a ton of money and get better pictures too.

Split or prepare for endless, and I mean endless babbling. The 1D forum was very good until recently when Canon started giving the 1D away in lucky bags.

Such elitest snobbery belongs in the Canon fora, not here.
........ sad to say but it will hit here too, except I'm forgetting one thing, there are five or ten times the Canon camera owning population than Nikon, so maybe the problem won’t become huge and force a forum split.

Ger Bee,

Are you sure you meant to send this today? I wasn't aware that the D70 had bee released. How is it you refer to using the D70 in the past tense?

We've missed you...it's been so peaceful around here lately. We've actually been discussing techniques, etc. instead of writing about how one camera "blows away" another.

The D2X hasn't even been announced!

There's too much information between these cameras and I'd rather have it in one forum than two seperate ones: it'll only accumulate more duplicate postings...

You have p*ssed off the hawk! I haven't been here lately because
I've had it with these types of posts. This one is sooooo pitiful,
I couldn't let it go without comment. I know I'll take some heat,
I really don't care anymore, if Phil wants to kick me off, fine,
I'm all but gone now anyway. Now, to the issues at hand:
1. It's Phil's site, he makes the decisions, not you. You don't
like it? Go away!
2. Stop the trolling posts! If you want Phil to consider
something, e-mail him, don't post in the forums. READ the info
here, it CLEARLY says Phil doesn't reply to questions to him in the
forums. Assuming you are not an idiot, the only reasons for
posting this kind of thing over and over and over and over and over
and over (GET THE POINT?) again is to stir up trouble. See
solution in #1 above!
3. If this is the biggest issue here, we all (and I include myself
in this for lowering myself to this level of response) need to Get
a Life!

Rant over, flame away!

I don't want to travel thru 3 or 4 forums to find an info or adress
an info.

You will have people writing the same thread in ALL the forums

The split with Lens/camera body is already enough of a mess with
almost everyone not following the rules, I don't want to see it
happen in the NSLRTF

I want this place to stay as is, we do not need to repeat the
Canon's mistake ... (not intented to the users or the camera
itsefl).

Too many places to go, you lose interest quickly ...

Just identify the thread a little more carefully and that's it ...

BTW, a D-70 users might have an excellent question that could apply
to the whole familly as well as the opposite. For me the camera
body doesn't say anything about the photographer's ability to take
pictures or write a decent thread.

DLSR is DSLR, man... the cost of the camera doesn't correlate to the skills of the photographer, there are plenty of D100 shooters in here who can teach us a thing or two about photography. Both the SLR and Lens forums already have enough posts from people who have dropped thousands on equipment and still can't take a good pic to save their lives.

Hey, I didn't write anything here so don't look, okay? I'm surprised you haven't signed up for the Bosque del Apache thing with Ron next month, or was the last visit enough?

SImple solution, Identify the camera in subject line...
Simple, logical, and effective. Glad you see the merit in it now, but I can clearly recall your horrified and negative reaction when I first made that suggestion on the NTF several months back.
