I have been intrigued by the SD10, and have been reading this forum for some time now. At first I was put off by the dust on the sensor thing -- this is a nonexistent issue for those of us who have never played with dSLRs before. But I was much reassured after reading other forums, where I learned that dust on the sensor is common throughout the dSLR community, regardless of camera make. And it is easy to fix. Whew!

Anyway.... I ordered my SD10 yesterday from fotoconnection.com, which I found with a "Sigma SD10" search using nextag.com. Fotoconnection.com gets relatively high marks -- a composite of 4 out of 5 based on over 150 customer reviews. Their price was too good to ignore, so I went ahead and took a chance on them. I ordered the SD10, along with both of the new DC lenses (18-50mm and 55-200mm). The price, including lenses, was $1,349. Shipping was another $20. If my research is correct, this is the best price out there for the whole kit. (These low-ball "Broadway" outfits are notorious for not including a warranty with their goods, but the online ad states there is a 1-year limited warranty, and I made sure to confirm that a standard manufacturer's warranty accompanies the camera.)

They called me yesterday, to confirm my order and to try and sell me on a bunch of other "good deals." But I stood firm and held out for just the camera kit. There have been no further hassles, and today I received an email with UPS tracking number -- it has shipped and is on its way to me now!

E-1? Many in the Oly SLR forum have over 2000 shots with nary a speck of dust...

Hey, Mac,

Not all of us want to spend what the E-1 costs for an image that is not as good as what the SD-10 can produce. We can blow off a wee bit of dust on that rare occasion.

Cliff.

I hope all goes well with the trasaction and that you'll be very happy with your SD10. It looks like a really good camera. I'm really interested in seeing the results you get with it.

Like you, I'm a devout follower (lurker) in here. If I was going with a Dslr, there's only 2 cameras I'd buy. The SD9, or the SD10. Depending on how much $ I had at the time.

You posted an interesting thread, in that other STF, a few days ago. You wondered why everyone was comparing the 828 to the 300D and why not compare it to the SD10. Pahleese!!! We all know that the only fair comparison for the SD10 is the 1Ds. But I didn't want to post that, and go down a rathole with a bunch of rabid 300D owners....LOL

Good choice and good shooting,
Steve

Rick,

Congrats!

Don't get caught up in the "digital revolution" this is all about photography
and I think you made a great choice but let your images speak on your
behalf!

I can't wait to see your first images!

I can't wait for you to get your SD10 too. So we can see more good work from photogs.... that is the coolest... seeing other people's work. Shoot often and a lot, and share stuff too.

The camera arrived yesterday!! I have to say that despite a mixed bag of reviews about this supplier (fotoconnection.com), including several negative ones, I had NO problems at all. I ordered the SD10 kit w/2 lenses last Saturday, they called me on Monday to confirm the order, and shipped the camera by UPS ground on Tuesday. It arrived on my doorstep yesterday. There is, indeed, a separate 1-year manufacturer's warranty in the box for each lens and the camera body.

As far as I can tell, this is far and away the best deal out there for an SD10 -- $1,349 for camera body, and both DC lenses. I am very pleased!

I'd have to agree! I also have to admit I was skeptical. I was expecting you to update us by saying you had been shipped an SD9 with the two lenses instead of an SD10. Here's my take on it. On their site when you look up Sigma digital cameras it lists the SD9 body alone for $869, and the SD10 KIT for $1349....with no listing for just the body alone. I'm thinking someone screwed up big time by listing the KIT where the body alone should be...and for the price of the body alone! I'm sure the salespeople simply look up on their computer whatever it is someone is ordering and give them the price that comes up on the screen. It'll be interesting to see how long it takes someone to figure out the mistake (assuming I'm correct in my assessment).

Enjoy the camera!

You haver more money than I do, the price of my kit was $US1299.95, but I did not get the three day shipping. UPS tracking says it is in Jax now and will be delivered in Tallahassee tomorrow. I will update you when it arrives.

They probably are sheisters, but that does not mean you wont get a good deal from them. I spent 10 min on the phone explaining I have a card reader, CF cards, UV filters, and did not need an extended warranty. The trick I use is to say I have 55mm and 58mm UV filters before the salesman asks if I want one.

The invoice they sent me was for the kit, not just the body so I think this may be a real good deal.

Ah... It's sort of amusing but it's typical Brooklyn, NY type of wheeling and dealing. I also just ordered a bunch of lenses from digitalfotoclub. Pleasant enough people, but one second they're saying my Sigma 24mm prime is on backorder and the next minute "It's shipped!!!" (after I tell them OK, then take it off the invoice and e-mail me the corrected invoice.) I don't really care. As long as I get my goodies...

For those people to whom my first comment didn't make any sense, it's part of the upsell process, telling you that the cheaper item isn't in to try and get you to buy the more expensive product.

Theres no real reason to think that it is a mistake. There are multiple vendors that sell the camera and kit for cheap. (In fact, i just looked and the price is now 1275). Its just a matter of how much markup the store puts on it

You have to be careful about reading sites like those. There are very useful, but you have to keep in mind that people who are unhappy are much more likely to post something then people who were very happy, but for that matter, there are some very sattisfied posts there too.

You guys are lucky down there. I ordered my D10 2 weeks ago. We don't have a dealer in London selling D10. I did not want to take a chance getting a grey market camera( I was told so many times If I orederd on line I might take a chance since I am up north in Canada). So local dealer ordered direct from Sigma America. Cost me $2100.00 canadain (about $1600.00 Us) but I know I can get to the place where I can get service if I needed.
I can't wait to get mine. It is coming for sure!!!!

saying my Sigma 24mm prime is on backorder
It can't be on Backorder, it's either there or not - Sigma don't have any as they stopped making it about 3 years ago, Assuming that it's this one and NOT the 1.8 EX, i've never even seen the 2.8 in a Sigma catalog and have been looking at Sigma catalogs since the D60 was announced..
