ON1 PhotoRaw 2026 will be out on the 13th. Upgrade costs are very reasonable and Scott Davenport has a 10% discount code which works on new licences and upgrades for anyone who is interested.

Makes the upgrade cost around £56 (inc 20% tax) which these days is a relative bargain. I was initially looking at ON1 as a possible alternative to Affinity for the limited pixel editing/layers functionality I required. Quite relevant at the moment as we wait to see what's happening to Affinity Photo.

I'm anxious about 2026 ON1 PhotoRaw.

It looks so different from what it used to be, and counting on new bugs it will come with, I am afraid I will fail to use it.

I have downloaded an installation file .exe of current version in case I'll have to do a step back.

As a side note, I was uncapable to learn Affinity that I had for more than 2 years, so my hat is off

Regards.

Agree. For current users of ON1 2025 the upgrade is a good fair price. For current users the cost for stand-alone version is $79 plus the $10 discount being offered by S. Davenport and others - makes it $69.

Also includes free updates for a year.

I've been very happy with ON1. I also appreciate they go the extra mile offering youtube tutorials by a great teacher.

Thanks for posting.

Seconded. Except that it can be really good when it works.

I have Photo Raw Max on subscription so I update automatically and use the plug-ins from Photoshop. My current problem is with the Resize AI 2026 plug-in which was released a couple of months back. It repeatedly crashes Photoshop so I have to make sure that I save my work before using the plug-in. The High Quality setting has an acknowledged huge bug that creates horrible artifacts all over any large areas of plain color such as blue sky. Totally unusable. I've reported these to ON1 and they admit the problems, but they still haven't fixed them.

Photo Raw can be a great product to facilitate almost one-click workflow operations but it can also be buggy, especially when using plug-ins. I can only hope that they have fixed at least some of the known bugs before they release the 2026 version but I'm not holding my breath.

ON1 certainly has a different approach to editing. A few comments which I hope will help.

The Develop tab contains the basic global adjustments you get with any photo editor eg exposure, contrast etc so that should not cause you any issue.

The Local tab simply gives you access to the normal photo editor adjustments, exposure, contrast etc, but here you can choose to apply the adjustment locally by applying a mask, so again, apart from masking, should pose no real problem.

Where ON1 differs most from other editors is that all other edit menu items which you would normally find in the Develop tab are applied as what ON1 refers to as "Effects". Thus rather than choosing the Curves option in the Develop tab, as you would in most editors, you apply a Curves "Effect". This brings up the Curves dialogue box where you make your adjustments and, again different from other editors, you get to choose implicitly whether you apply the Curves adjustment to the whole image or only part of it. Thus all £Effects" are effectively local in nature.

Hopefully looking at ON1 in this way may help you to get to grips more easily with using ON1. YouTube also provides plenty of helpful tutorials on how to use ON1, Effects filters, masking etc.

Good luck :-)

Yes, in the UK upgrading to ON1 PhotoRaw 2026 is actually a lower cost than upgrading to DXO Filmpack or NIK making ON1 currently excellent value.

In addition to Ian's excellent summary of On1's approach to editing, I'd add that local adjustments in the Develop tab can be done with the use of Layers, which allows for using masks and brushes. So for example, with an added layer you can apply different levels of NoNoise AI or TackSharp AI to different areas of a photo. You also can apply different levels of Brilliance AI (or other features in the Develop tab) to different areas of a photo if that's something you'd want to do.

How are people applying the discount on the upgrade price? In the UK I've added it, but the price doesn't reduce :(

I went into my account and clicked on the upgrade link and entered Scott Davenports code into the coupon box. I'm in the UK if that makes any difference?

Received the e-mail earlier where they announced 2026 is now available. I have the MAX version. For some reason they didn't include a Capture One plugin for ON1 Photo RAW 2026 MAX. It was included in 2025.

Happy to see I can still use the 2025 version alongside the 2026 version.

I am on Windows and both 2025 and 2026 plugins show up in the Preferences plugin tab.

Been testing PR 2026 thoroughly last 2 hours and must say : resize and masking performance is stunning!

2026 User Guide is here

Hi,

Installed and opened just to see if it would open. Installed fine. When I open it there is a moving bar in the lower right that says "Installing Assets". Hovering over it says "0 of 0 installed". Any idea what's going on? Closing says "Background tasks in process".

Thanks,

Bob Schoner

Agree - it is surprisingly good.

BTW - no crash so far....

It will take some time. You can use the soft in the meantime.

Downloaded it today and have been kicking the tires around a bit. Masking definitely improved and a more LR like feel and utility to masks. I'm still trying to fix the right panel's real estate for my laptop. Overall, quite speedy and I'll have to tinker with some of the other features in the next couple of days.

I just checked and it says that ON1 photo raw 2026 vs 2025 has build-in Resize AI 2026. Hmmm, I have the standalone Resize AI 2023 and it was not cheap. Wondering if it would be worth considering to upgrade from 2025 for the build in resize AI plus all other functions mentioned here before.

I guess I could just try it and see.
