Edit: it looks like it a a minor upgrade, to comply with EU security norm RED 18031, plus a few minor bug fixes. I think I'll skip.

I always upgrade FW. I don't think it did much for me but I aways wonder if they sneak in small improvements without listing them.

Password is no big deal. You can instruct it not to ask when you power the camera up and so far it's working as advertised. You won't be able to skip that forever. It will likely be in all future FW updates.

Thanks! I'm well aware that the next upgrade will be built on top of this one, and it's OK for me to wait till then. There is nothing that I need in the bug fixes or in the new features in this version.

What future updates ? :-)

Canon is not well known for firmware updates. There is usually one or two when the camera model is quite new, and nothing after that.

Maybe not the R62 but as stated new releases.

Updated to the new firmware. Never had any issue upgrading firmware, untill now. Write speeds have slowed down significantly since upgrading to fw 1.0.6 and even one or two pics take seconds before I can review, let alone a full burst. Did not have any problem with the Lexar 2000x before and using other cards does not give better results as well as reformatting the card.

Might do a full reset and start over again to see if that helps.

Thanks! I'll wait a while too. The more so as there is nothing of interest for me in the new firmware, and Canon announces it as optional.

Do a firmware reinstall first before doing anything drastic. No harm, might help.

ps. Be sure to follow Canon's instructions to the letter (P Mode, no lens, etc)

Did the reset before reading your reply ... But the reset solved the issue. Write speeds are back. Took half an hour to adjust custom setting, though the opportunity to optimise the My Menu part.

Other than this I see no reason to not upgrade to 1.0.6

I shot yesterday but didn't notice but the bursts were short. 2000x Lexar as well.

Did not do a full burst, so no idea if bursts itself were short. It were the (very) slow write speed and large delay before being able to review. But as said, a full reset solved the issue. A first for me in many times a firmware update over the years.

I’ll give it a try.

I applied the new firmware to my R6 MKII a week ago. Took my 200-800 out and find that it snaps into focus quickly. Before the firmware I would have to pull the lens back (zoom back) to get AF and then zoom back out to 800mm.

Great to hear that you got it resolved! I haven't had the opportunity to update any of my bodies yet, been so busy. Maybe I'll give it a whirl this week tho.

Years ago I didn’t mind doing full resets but as I get older I find it less appealing. I’m shooting a model airplane show on Sunday so I’ll try some long bursts.
