Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.

It was a kite flying weekend on Humboldt Bay at Halvorsen Park in Eureka. A nice day with a nice, constant breeze and great skies. People fly kites here every suitable weekend, but this day was organized and advertised.

Looking N, the clouds coming from the W (left), moving fast to the right. You won't see the same clouds in these pictures. They came and went very quickly to be replaced by new ones.

This one would be good for video. It is spinning fast, like a pinwheel.

Thanks Pete.

Dahlias are work here because they will not over winter in the ground and have to be dug up and moved inside to survive. Then you get to replant them the following year. The large ones are expensive as well. The smaller varieties are relatively inexpensive.

It has been done up very nicely Pete. The surroundings are beautiful as well. The building is indeed small inside if it can only contain 35 church goers. In these parts old churches are not all that old dating back mostly to the 1800s or early 1900s. The buildings are often sold and converted to homes. In larger cities the old churches would be older. I don't know what becomes of them when the congregations shrink so much as to make them no longer affordable to run. Next time in I am in downtown Hamilton I will have to take a look at some I remember from my childhood.

An interesting set of images Rich. That is a nice area for a park. Not many trees so I guess that makes it a good place for flying kites. I never had much luck (the good kind) trying to fly kites. We did purchase some when the kids were young while we camped in New Brunswick at a national park on the Bay of Fundy. The name I don't recall. They had an open area and we did manage to get the kites up and fly them. After we returned home we flew them some more for a short while. If I recall correctly one met its death hitting the ground.

Evening walk catching the low light Rich? I was expecting to see some decorative grasses from your garden! I still have not cut down last years. So many things to do and a too many for the aging body!

Nice set Andrew like the purple ones a lot, what are they?

Lovely place, pls let me understand a bit more, it is like a museum or it is a “ let say” working church……..the interior is great…

Like the festival we had here , but with way more variety of kites……here they made the kites out of bamboo and mashe paper…..nicely done Rich…

If it is the fifth image Roy, I am not certain as to the exact variety but they are asters. They grow wild on the property and were not planted. There are several varieties that have that look: the New England Aster, the Smooth Aster, and the New York Aster. I think the variety we have is the first one. Most people would consider them weeds. They are wildflowers and they attract butterflies. When we first moved to this property we had hundreds of monarch butterflies that visited these plants. Now we rarely see a monarch butterfly. It was something I looked forward to each year. :-(

The first image is another wildflower, a cranesbill geranium.

Just an evening stroll indeed. The garden does indeed absorb time like another dimension !
