A photo about nothing in particular. . .

I would like to see photos about nothing in particular. You can define "Nothing" however you like.

In MY mind, it is a photo that would make your obnoxious "Uncle Jack" say, WHY did you take a picture of THAT?"when it speaks to you in some way.

Note that your "Uncle Jack", may not be named "Jack", or even be your Uncle, but I'm willing to bet there is someone in your life like that.

A snapshot from my trip.



Why? There were hundreds of visitors crowded the sight seeing spot. Many were dressed up in local folk custom clothes to take pictures. The interesting point is, all were seniors ...

Uncle Jack? I have father-in-law Fred. He gets triggered at ANY photo in portrait format.

His first comment on any photo (apart from portrait orientation) is how awful the colours are, or how low resolution it is or whatever preconceived gripe he has in his head that day. But I keep sharing them just to antagonise him.

If I were to show him a "nothing" photo (or a minimalist abstract) it might just push him over the edge.

Hmmm, think I might try that

The thing is, he secretly shares my wildlife photos with others but can never bring himself to say they are good.

I think every family has an equivalent Fred/Jack.

Doesn't even need to be nothing in particular.

In my youth I took a shot of a single small flower on an orchid during a bike trip on Gotland (large island in the Baltic). Qualified as macro. Handheld, squatting, extension tubes, slide film. Once home I made a Cibachrome copy and framed it. I was so proud of myself, both because the image was sharp and quite good and because I had handled the Cibachrome process. When I showed it to my uncle he said "Why do you take pictures like THAT? You could have bought a postcard.". Thing is he photographed himself in his youth, had a darkroom and everything. Seems he had forgotten.

It is a waste of even M4/3 gear. You should have used a cellphone. The comparison or metaphor would have stayed the same.

As requested I sought something that was not worth photographing and took the shot anyway....


Is this uninteresting enough?

It happens to be the top corner of an IKEA bedhead at my daughter's place 350km from home. Brought only the Sony compact this trip as never intended any photography anyway. It's all so dry and barren here this year so bad for a scenery shot.
