If that is the widely-rumoured vertical (portrait) format camera, why is the viewfinder window in horizontal (landscape) format? Hmmm...
It's optical and probably masked internally. Almost certainly done for cosmetic reasons. If that is the widely-rumoured vertical (portrait) format camera, why is the viewfinder window in horizontal (landscape) format? Hmmm...
I agree that is odd. Unfortunately we don't have an image of the back of the camera that would give more information as to the designed use of this camera. Might it have a square 1" sensor with selectable horizontal and vertical orientation options? I'm surprised it has an optical viewfinder instead of a EVF, though it should keep the price down and give a retro rangefinder experience to the user.If that is the widely-rumoured vertical (portrait) format camera, why is the viewfinder window in horizontal (landscape) format? Note the shape of the frame illuminator next to the VF window. Definitely vertical.I agree that is odd. Now that sounds like a good idea...Note the shape of the frame illuminator next to the VF window. Definitely vertical.
A wider VF may be to accommodate extra data down the sides, which would be nice.
That actually looks square to my eye but I could see them offering a square view with framelines within it.Note the shape of the frame illuminator next to the VF window. In that case you could argue I spose you end up with an OVF without any info in it.I don't understand this camera. If it was an APS-C sensor, it would be interesting. As it currently stands, it's just a really bad RX100VII.
Seriously, what's the value proposition here over a GR III (just add the OVF attachment if it's what you want), RX100VII, Panasonic LX100II or Canon Powershot V1?
It doesn’t seem anything like an RX100.I don't understand this camera. If it was an APS-C sensor, it would be interesting. As it currently stands, it's just a really bad RX100VII.
It’s not supposed to be better, it’s supposed to be different. This isn’t a camera that’s playing Spec Sheet World Cup. Comparing this camera to a GR III is a bit like comparing an Instax to an X-T5 and a desktop photo printer: of course you won’t get the same potential quality out of it. But that’s completely missing the point, as the sales figures for Instax demonstrate. Lots of people don’t need ultimate quality, they just want adequate quality and, most importantly, a fun time getting there.Seriously, what's the value proposition here over a GR III (just add the OVF attachment if it's what you want), RX100VII, Panasonic LX100II or Canon Powershot V1?
I’m shocked! Don’t all photographers evaluate all their images at 100% on a 27” 4K monitor, regardless of the intended use?It doesn’t seem anything like an RX100.I don't understand this camera. FujiRumors is calling this unusual camera a half-frame, but I haven't seen anything from Fujifilm calling it as such as it has yet to be announced. However it might be good marketing strategy to call it a half frame camera, even if it is a misnomer. Nikon named their 1" sensor ILCs Nikon 1, even though the sensor was not 1" in size. BTW, in the interest of accuracy, the half frame negative was actually 24x17mm with 1mm blank between the frames. So the answer to your question is very probably, yes.A 1" sensor (13x9mm). Half frame should therefor be 24x(36/2)mm or 24x18mm.
So at 13x9mm a 1" sensor would be much closer to 1/4 frame than 1/2 frame.
Or am I being just too logical and this is all just marketing BS?
Most sensor sizes bear no real relationship to their film "equivalents", so its no more of an issue calling a 1" sensor "half frame" than it is to call Fuji's GX cameras "medium format", especial as it is about half-frame compared with the X-range ;-)A 1" sensor (13x9mm). Half frame should therefor be 24x(36/2)mm or 24x18mm.

What about the cam makes it look „more like a Leica“? I presume it will have similar materials as the XM-5 and the XF-10. More than o.k. for the target price. To me it looks a bit cheap and the small lens looks off. But that might be the leaked picture. The reason they chose a smaller 1“ sensor to then even crop it, surprises me. But the half-frame Pentax surprised me, too. I am too old for the target group, but I had supposed that everyone buying a camera today looks for at least uncropped M43 or rather likely APS-C. Fun cameras like used digicams or Instax etc. are a different game, but for a lot of younger people > 600,- isn’t pocket money. In that case you could argue I spose you end up with an OVF without any info in it.I don't understand this camera. Pretty safe bet I think Fuji will probably be looking to sell this on that and the build/look/handling. It certainly does look very nice, you could argue actually more Leica like than the X100.
Why would they crop the sensor? Just turn it 90° to vertical. What about the cam makes it look „more like a Leica“? I presume it will have similar materials as the XM-5 and the XF-10.
