.NEF file issue.

Just checking to see if anybody else is having this issue.

Recently, when I import my .NEF (Nikon raw files) to my Macbook Pro, I am unable to see the "preview image" of those files, in FINDER on my MacBook Pro. The simply show as BLACK, with no preview.

My .psd files and .jpg files show the preview fine, but not the .NEF files.

Now, if I OPEN the file in Photoshop, the file is fine, but the PREVIEW in Finder is simply BLACK. I usually like to scroll through the previews before opening them directly in Photoshop, but recently, something has happened that these files are simply not showing any visible PREVIEW now. So, just checking to see if anybody else that uses, Nikon raw files and a Macbook is experiencing the same issue.

I have no issues viewing NEF files on my M2 Mac mini in the Finder. I checked NEF files taken with my D5100 and Z6II.

Not sure what the issue could be, except an older version MacOS that has an issue with viewing NEF files in the Finder.

I was wondering what version of MacOS you are using and model of camera?

This JUST started within the last month for me. I am using Version, Sequioq 15.4. My Macbook Pro is the M3 Pro Max. I have had the Nikon D7200 for years.

I have always been able to view the Previews of my .nef files in Finder, but for some reason, they are now completely BLACK. My .jpg, and .psd files both show previews, it is just with .nef files recently. I am not aware of any settings I have changed.

Again, the nef files open fine, in Photoshop, or even in Preview on my MacBook, but if I click on any .nef file in Finder, there is no preview image, just a black screen now.
 
This issue comes up from time to time. Lots of advice on this subject can be found by searching for

Something had to change recently, because I never had this issue before with my .nef files! I have had the D7200 for years, and my files always had “previews”. I am suspecting an “Update issue” from Apple! I update my Macbook with every update!

I have also posted this question in the Apple forums to see if anybody else is experiencing this issue!

If it is a bug, it makes me consider not updating my Mac mini to 15.4 and staying at 15.3 for awhile longer. I’m like the OP and do view previews of files in the Finder on occasion when I’m looking for something and don’t want to open a specific program.

Experiencing the same bug as well with NEF's showing as blank. Using 15.4.1. I'm not paying for an app as a bypass for a bug. That's silly. Apple needs to fix it.

Hi, I experience exactly the same problem, obviously many of us do in these days. You can try to resize/zoom and it works for the current/viewed file, but not for the next one - resize again ... and much fun, if you want to scan few 100s of shots.

Apple MacOS seems to be exactly there, where Windows were in 2010's ... this is not the only issue I experience last few months ...

I would love to but can't seem to submit any feedback outside of the Apple Community forums, where it has already been reported. Your link takes me to the main Apple home page to buy more of their stuff.

I went to Mac to get away from Windows. I wish there was more app compatibility for Linux other I would be full time on Linux. I don't have any interest in running VM's to run other OS'es on Linux.

An App on the Apple Store, called "Camera Raw X" will fix the issue. You simply download it, and it works in the background. All my .nef files will then show the preview as before.

But, hopefully Apple will fix this issue soon. :)

Nah, you don't need to do that, but thanks. Shouldn't have to be penalized for others' mistakes.

I agree, but I really wanted it fixed, so I went ahead and bought the software that fixes this issue. I had old Gift Card money sitting in my account from years ago. LOL. I have enough to buy it for you also, if you change your mind.
