I just purchased an X-T5 camera and I purchased a Tokina 33mm lens also. I purchased the lens by searching for lenses for the X-Mount system from a major retailer of camera gear in the USA. I assumed that all of the lenses listed would work on the X-T5.

The aperture ring on this lens is uncomfortably tight. I mean REALLY tight. I spoke with customer service and they asked me about a lock on the bottom of the lens. There is nothing like that. What's the deal? Is this a third party lens issue that I will possibly have issues like this in the future? Any information on this will be greatly appreciated.

The obvious solution is to only by Fuji lenses - but I cannot afford that option.

Thanks.

The Tokina 33 is pretty much the same lens as the Viltrox 33, either should work fine on your X-T5. If the aperture ring is very stiff - send it back, it shouldn’t be. If you want a premium lens with a great aperture ring, I highly recommend the Viltrox Pro 27 f/1.2 - premium build quality, and with optical performance several orders of magnitude beyond either 33, and quite capable of exploiting the 40MP sensor in the X-T5. The new Viltrox 35 f/1.7 is also optically far better than either 33, but lacks an aperture ring (but is really cheap).

I left it in "A" position and it never changed accidentally.

I didn't find any mention of aspherical lenses in the design.

The bokeh looks soft.

Return the lens under warranty and get a new one.

If you want to switch lens, like Erik said, the Viltrox 33/1.4 is optically identical or almost identical with the Tokina.

The Viltrox 27/1.2 is a great choice and optically better.

The XF 33/1.4 is great but of course more expensive.

The XF 35/1.4 is more affordable than the XF 33/1.4. I did a thorough comparison of those two lenses, see https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/68072028

What about the Fuji XF35/1.4R? Should be easy to find one second hand.

I am working with a tight budget.
Also suggested to look at the 35/1.4 in my post above.

Used copy probably not more expensive than the Tokina.

Cheers,

Martin
