Got to pretend to be a professional motorsports photographer for a few hours yesterday. It was a challenge with some tall fellas in front of me and the fence too of course but the OM-1 Mark 1 and OM-1 Mark II did a very nice job. 40-150 2.8 was used for the panning shots, 300mm F4 for the head on shots. Enjoy.

Excellent. I am very jealous would love to do Singapore GP. I hope you are there for the race, I'd love to see how you get on in the dark.

Which IBIS setting do you use?

Thanks Trevor! All the panning shots were actually taken under the lights between 9:00pm and 10:00pm, which is the same time when the race will be on. I preferred having slightly less light so that I did not have to stop down too much to get the desired shutter speed (wasn't using an ND filter).

If you ever do come to Singapore, let me know!

Top notch, the whole set. Very well done!

Having never seen F1 live I have to believe the difference between in person and on TV is boggling. "Are they fast, or are they quick?" "Yes."

Cheers,

Rick

Did you get a shot of Sainz binning it in Q3?

Thanks! Yes, seeing them in the flesh takes it up a couple of notches in terms of how fast they are. Thanks for the kind words.

I started off using S-IS2 (for panning) but found that it wasn't working so well so switched to auto which worked well in the end.

Outstanding work, I love the sense of speed with the blurred background, these shots would stand up nicely next to Cannon & Nikon etc!!

Great shots, but not a challenge for the OM-1. Who says that you need fast shutter speeds for panning? Your head on shot was only at 1/1250 sec.

Great set of shots! I would imagine a very difficult shot for the head on considering the car speed and the 600mm equivalent focal length. It seems the OM-1 C-AF or the auto subject recognition can keep up very well. Was the auto subject recognition used?
