R5ii pre-order shipping thread.

I can see one person in that link but it's mostly chatting about raw Vs craw which I don't quite see how that's directly linked to the R52.
The OP of the thread posted original RAW images before forum members informed them that they might be getting their dealer/retailer in hot water for breaking the embargo. The OP then removed all the RAW images.

if you check the FM Canon forum, you can see the images being posted by at least 2 other forum members.

I could only see one person showing they had a camera.
Definitely two in that thread, Yaniv and docusync. I didn't check the Exif info but its not that important to me.

I like Jan and subscribe to his channel but is he not in touch with the rest of us lowly photographers?! LOL Maybe he should have said Fortunately...

Perhaps one (with the box) and docusync is far from definite.

My point is that whole thread is one person with a box and it mostly is mostly chatting about craw Vs raw.

It adds little to the evidence people have cameras early.

I can say we don't have ours early, or a grip, or battery.
From what I saw, I willing to bet there was a late change that didn't disseminate out correctly, and units went out to various buyers and dealers. Either way, they didn't appear to be ready for release, nor do they really seem like they will be ready on 8/20. So I expect issues on this one. We will be guinea pigs. At least that's my take.

I initially ordered from Canon USA on launch day at 3:37am and was shown an 8/1 expected availability date.
But if I'm honest, this looks to be one of the worse releases I've seen from a manufacturer. Just on the info side, their website is still... almost 3 weeks later, littered with incorrect specs.
FWIW my Canon order is timestamped 6:04 EST. Website at the time stated release date as 8/1 as you reported. About an hour later I received an "update" stating 8/20. I always thought 8/1 was just a placeholder until the announcement video was completed.

I know some units have made it into the wild, but has Canon USA retail sent out units to customers yet? I haven't read a lot of threads in detail since the announcement. Don't really care, just curious as to whether the official or "official" release date was 8/1 or is 8/20.

As for info on the R52, completely agree Canon has been sloppy. It almost feels like it rushed the R52 out the door so it would have an effect on revenue for the Sept quarter.

You've given some examples. My own frustration is with the batteries. The online manual says the new battery is required for pre-shooting, but I saw a screen shot from the R52 with a non "P" battery inserted with a warning message that said that certain video functions and accessories would not work, nothing about photo functions. One of them is wrong, or at least incomplete.

Yeah, the battery thing is annoying. I'm guessing its tied to the fear of having too little current to sustain the high frame rate at low battery, but may actually work ok. We'll see. The real problem is, I don't suspect it will stop. I'm willing to bet Canon is going to make this behavior the norm moving forward on the mid-range cameras. The top and bottom end will not likely see this tactic, but I bet anything in the $3,000 - $5000 will.

I'm still annoyed you can't assign a button to enable and disable the pre-shooting in stills, but you can in video. Seems like lunacy, but Canon made it super clear it wouldn't be available, so I assume it conflicts with something. Disappointing.

For anyone else who ordered through Canon directly, did you get a backorder email from Canon? Wondering if everyone is getting the email, or only affected people. Would be painful to be significantly back ordered with an order time of 3:40am on launch, but I guess anything is possible.

Just got the shipping notification for my R5 ii (and extra battery). Probably will arrive by the official launch day, but maybe I’ll get lucky and it’ll arrive a little early.

I went ahead and snagged a couple of LP-E6Ps ahead of time. Now I just need my camera =(

Interesting that Canon does not have RAW support for the R5II yet but Adobe ACR and LrC do. Not only the R5II but the R1. Canon should have that out pretty soon.

The latest updates from Adobe showed they didn't have support for the R52 but they did the R1.
Yet I could (and still can) open a R5II RAW file using LrC and ACR 4 days ago. The R5II was made available in June with the LrC 13.4. ACR was also available.

I roll with pleasing colour
I understand. The table they published is blank for the r52 but not for the R1. I forget who posted it in here.

There was some discussion over a tint change that occurred. Perhaps it was JACS who posted I forget now sorry.

It was JACS. Before the 13.5 update there was information in that row but it had 3 asterisks. When you clicked on those it said it was preliminary support. I figure they are updating that row and we should see something soon. I didn't check today.

Still no support for Canon's DPP.
