Hello
1. Is there one trigger that is better than others ?

2. When do you use the inbuilt off camera system that is within the flash?

I have always used a pocket wizard with the canon 580s, but have now purchased a Godox V1 pro Flash

Thankyou

Yes. Triggers which use radio frequency rather than IR light are better. But obviously your flash has to support RF.

Are you asking when to use inbuilt trigger rather than a remote trigger such as a pocket wizard? It depends on what equipment you have.

You have to check compatibility. Pocket wizard (depending on model) may support Godox flashes.

Sorry , to clarify
What's the difference between using the Godox inbuilt flash system to trigger off camera flash compared to buying a separate trigger for the hot shoe . See images

Ok, i got you now. No difference in functionality. Some people only have Godox studio strobes, like the AD600, so they must use the separate trigger.

For you, if you are okay with keeping the flash in the hot shoe, then you don't need the separate trigger as you add more Godox flashes / strobes to your system. Your built-in trigger will work for other Godox units.

But if you want to place your flash off-camera (on a stand), then you need the separate trigger.

Some photographers prefer off-camera flash and not having a heavy flash on the camera.

Ok thankyou

looks like I will get a trigger as I don’t want the flash on top of camera

any one you can recommend?

Well…no I am not able to recommend a trigger as I dont have experience with so many different ones.

I use Elinchrom lights, so I use an Elinchrom trigger. I used to use Westcott lights and then I used the Westcott brand trigger.

If you plan to build a collection of Godox lights, then go with the godox trigger for max compatibility.

Either Godox X2T or XPro II or X3. - X3 is the newest, smallest, and has built-in rechargeable battery. X2T is the cheapest. They are all good.
