Hi, I have an FZ300 and an FZ1000. Looking at a Lumix G7.

Will a flash that fits the FZ series also fit the G7 ?

thanks in advance (also posted in Panasonic compact talk).

As the FX1000 was released in 2014 and 43 & M43 were well established by then I think it's highly unlikely that Panasonic would use a different flash fitting. It would help to know what flash you have as that would make it easier to check.

thanks, looking at both a Meike MK320 and G7 (separately), own FZ300 and FZ1000

I purchased an Olympus Fl36 flash (a.k.a. Panasonic FL3600) for use with my FZ50.

The same flash functions nicely on my OMD EM10.2 and EM1.2 bodies [including the flash noticing the focal plane shutter, and offering 'high speed sync'].

On both the FZ and OMD cameras the flash's zoom feature is enabled to match the lens' zoom setting.

If you have not already done, download the Panasonic PDF G7 Manual.

I did a online search for the DMW-FL360L and DMW-FL580L. Each flash only has just the three contacts in addition to the center contact.

Need to see you can find out what's the G7 4th hotshoe for; if used for any special purposes.

The fourth pin is to supply power to some 'kit' flashes - like the one bundled with the OMD EM 1.2

thank you everyone. I appreciate it.

I am going to get the used Meike MK320 flash (I am sure it will work on at least one of these Lumix cameras).

I will post the result of my testing.

Actually there are 5 contacts in the original Olympus/Panasonic hot-shoe mount. The ISO 518:2006 hot-shoe has 2 contacts, one in the center, and the other on the side where the metal hot-shoe makes the connection. Under ISO 518:2006, the only thing you can do is fire the flash.

The original Olympus/Panasonic hot-shoe mount then added 3 contacts on the bottom to allow TTL (through the lens) signals through to control the flash. These 5 contact points are in the same location as 5 of the 6 contact points used for Canon flashes. The communication between the camera and flash is different between Canon and Olympus/Panasonic flashes, but it means you can use some of the flash extender cables designed for Canon gear.

Starting with the release of the FL-LM3 with the E-m5 mark II, Olympus added an additional contact, that is also in the same location as the 6th pin in Canon flashes. This extra pin provides power for the flash from the camera (the FL-LM3 does not have a battery). I believe the later Panasonic cameras added this 6th contact pin. My FZ-300 does not have this 6th pin.

I don't remember for certain, but I'm sure I used my Olympus flashes on the FZ-300.

I have both a Lumix FL360L and Meike MK320 flash. Both were acquired when I was using FZ fixed zoom lens cameras (FZ1000 and FZ2500).

Both work flawlessly with my G9 and GX9 bodies.

Go for it!
