you will likely be surprised that they don’t. What people experience is the last mile deliveries - when you buy one item directly from a vendor, they may ship by air. Almost everything getting to retailers themselves still ships via maritime ships
It is somewhat cost effective to ship small items by air, but manufacturers almost always bundle their shipments to a larger cumulative size at which point ships are much much cheaper than planes
In this case, they will likely send a bunch of these $1900 lense along with a bunch of other things together in a ship from Japan to somewhere in US, and then local distribution takes over within the USA. Thats what Canon NA is there for
And... Still nothing. I feel like reenacting A Fish Called Wanda and exacerbatedly yelling DISAPPOINTED every time I see a beautiful bird just magically waiting to be photographed right in front of me, and yet still no sodding 200-800 attached to my camera body. I'm growing very weary the entirety of the spring migration will pass before I have the lens in hand. Here's hoping that's not the case
