Canon continues to dominate everywhere ... except DPReview ;-)

Nikon doesn't show up on this year's list (or last year's).

The 5DIV is still a popular body of choice to rent. Why would this be the case? Battery capability?

Why would the R6 be more often rented than the R6Ii?

Some unexpected results.

Maybe pros renting what they are familiar with that is good enough to get the job done ?
That sounds plausible, second body or replace one in for repair.

Also as a backup to what they shoot with, or for an additional shooter.

Cheers,

wouldn't a Pro have his own camera? renting a camera doesn't seem to make economic sense for a Photo business.

renting a high end lens maybe, but renting a DSLR?

hmmm ???

I don’t find the 5D IV that surprising. It’s a solid workhorse. Familiar. Good colors.

Agreed. Pros should already have at least 1 backup body, and a spare 5D4 is not exactly cost prohibitive for a working photographer. Unless special gigs that require more cameras than they own (like dedicated time lapse or remote cameras). Still, that seems like it would be a small percentage of rentals.

Or maybe there's lots of amateur photogs that want a cheap backup with long battery life and weather sealing for an extended vacation.

The rental houses are the people to ask, but I would not be surprised if professionals, part time and fulltime are a big part of their regular rentals.

A part time wedding photographer might rent a 2nd cam as needed.

A fulltime pro owns more than 1 camera, but they might not keep 2 of the exact model. A different model backup might be ok on some shoots, but not others. Certain types of paid shoots, an exact model backup or shooting active dual cameras might be a necessity.

I have a few friends that are pro and still shooting dslr because it is what they know, it does the job and they own a lot of DSLR glass. If one of their camera breaks, do they buy another or rent as needed. I should ask them.

I'd bet your pro friends don't spend a lot of time and money chasing incremental upgrades.

When you do something for work you need a return on your investment. Not so for a lot of those here.
I agree. This is why I was theorizing it is the pros that are renting Canon DSLR's.

This is just my guess.

Thats possible I spose, holiday rentals may take battery life into account heavily.

Could be that lenses are also quite inexpensive to rent for it as well?

May just be that Canon has the most brand awareness still, "Canon 5D" may still be what many people think of when they think "serious camera" which would again help holiday rentals and perhaps low end pro rentals?
