Added support for RS-s 10-18 to all but the original R6. No update for R5 and older models. Does that mean the 10-18 would not work on older bodies?
Is there anyone who wants to use an RF-S lens on a full frame camera? In that case the FF camera will automatically switch to 1.6 crop mode, e.g. in case of the R6 MK1 it would mean the resolution will drop to 7.1 Mplx. Just sayin'. :)

At the Canon R6 USA page HERE; not showing the 1.8.3 version yet.

I'll just wait until Canon R6 USA page has the 1.8.3 version.

Not having any of the issues with my R6 the 'EOS R6 Firmware Update Version 1.8.3' fixes.

Attaching the new 10-18 to the R50, it told me that the lens may not work since a new firmware is needed; however, it seemed to work. At least I was able to take a picture, and it seems fine at first glance. There could very well be things that are not working properly.

On the R5 no such warning, and it seems to work.

Perfect timing. My RF-S 10-18mm is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow.

Thanks, good find. Can anyone with an R7 confirm whether the shutter shock fix from 1.3 persists in 1.4? Should be that, when using EFCS on H+ speed, you get less than 15fps on a burst below 1/500 shutter speed. E.g. about 11fps at 1/100.

This can be checked by taking the burst and then seeing how many shots occurred within a single second recorded via timestamp.

The reason I ask is I'd like to upgrade firmware, but don't want to lose this very useful fix.

I'm trying to update mymy R7 from 1.3 to 1.40

I've done many Canon updates so this process isn't new to me, however my R7 has locked

on the screen . . .

Firmware update program______
Update Firmware?
1.30 --> 1.40
EOSR7140.FIR
[Cancel] [ OK ]

I left it for 10 minutes and then tried to power off the camera
but it will not repond to the Power switch

I'm tempted to remove the battery but I'm concerned that this will brick the camera

Ideas ?

Peter

EDIT: I hit the Set button and the camera switched to normal screen

EDIT: I tried using a different SD card - this time an empty one which I had just formatted in-camera and the Update started OK and is proceeding normally.

I don't recall havng to use an empty card before, but the card I tried initially was almost full so maybe the update process needs some space . . . anyway the update has now completed

Did you select [OK] and hit SET?

there was no way to select OK - the screen was locked on the Cancel option

Canon's instructions for firmware updates via SD card explicitly say that the card should be formatted ("initialized") in camera before loading the firmware file onto it. I always find this tedious but now it's clear that it makes sense (if one wants to be on the safe side).

This may lead to annoyance, but should really not cause a safety concern. Irrespective of how the firmware is delivered, it should be verified before being actually applied - which minimizes the chance of a bad application, and should also decouple the actual install from transfer media. It world be even more reliable if the camera has an in-built secondary buffer for recovery. Worst I would expect is it not working as the previous poster encountered, and then try again after fixing the underlying cause

In reality, an implementation can be as bad as Murphy says. So, while I have never had such fortune, has anyone had a bricked camera during firmware updates in recent times?

The instructions do not specify a blank/empty formatted card
I have never needed to use a newly formated card (empty) to do a FW update, not with my current R7, or any of my three Canon DSLRs.

The card I used had indeed been formated by the camera.
If we are supposed to format the card immediately before copying the FW file to it then the instructions ought to say so.

Same problem for me, I have also 1.3.0 on the camera. Downloaded and tried to install 1.3.1, same problem: no way to get to the OK button. Tried with 2 cards, Lexar Pro V60 128 Gb. Both formatted in-camera just before copying the file. Camera set to P mode too. In one instance, could not shut down the camera, had to remove battery. Lens attached: RF 18-150.

Update: I tried to attach an old Canon EF lens, with the RF-EF adapter. Same issue.

I have just been on the Canon UK site looking for upgraded firmware for my R6 Mk2. There is 1.3.0 for Windows dated 17 November, but only 1.2.0 dated 8 September for Mac. What is going on?

What is the latest firmware for the R6 Mk2? And why is it different depending on your operating system?
