Welcome to the Weekly Image Thread!

This thread will appear every Saturday (GMT). If the thread is nearing full before the next Saturday, I may start a new thread and carry on until it fills or the next Saturday arrives and it is reasonably full in which case I will start another. Confused, so am I! From time to time the start could be delayed if I am unavailable.

Although this Weekly thread is in the Olympus SLR forum, we openly welcome users of all brands and models.

Please:

  1. Reply to this post and change the TITLE!
  2. Please reply to at least one other contribution, your replies encourage posters!!!
  3. If asked, please share your processing techniques or technical details.
  4. Please show the EXIF if possible. Please identify the lens used regardless of which camera was used to take the image. This helps people form opinions of the lens used with the body to possibly influence future acquisitions.
  5. If special lighting was used to create your image stating what was done may help others.
Thanks for joining and contributing this week.

The first one is worthy of a poster.

I tend not to think often about music that does not trigger good memories Dave, well at least so far. I think I need to listen to more music but recently I have been 'taking a bit of a break' from my headphone listening.

I enjoy art and music a great deal and am not sure how people can live without them in their lives but I guess people are all different. Our daughter in law recently expressed a liking for some of our art work and I was totally shocked, not expecting it at all.

Snow tires go one car this afternoon and on the Rav4 tomorrow afternoon. That means winter is officially here, and it sucks!

I agree Rich, the first turned out well. The best shooting positions were obviously taken by people with their phones! There is no getting away from that.

I was wrong about the number of games I have yet to process. They have played 23 games and I currently working on my third set of images. I am doomed!

Perhaps I read it incorrectly WN, but if you shot these at 400 mm I have to wonder why you did not go a little wider to get the entire tree line in the image. If you shot them at 100 mm then there was not wider to be had.
About the 400mm pictures …. I mentioned it here just to provide a data point and relate the consequences I had when using this focal length and generating so many files. …. As to why I took it at all! .. Once I realized I was going to do a pano I thought I would get as much detail as possible and also so I could play with these files .. Below is one of the 17 files I got from the series, pp'd as I would have done if I could had a computer that would process the entire pano in reasonable amount of time … again to satisfy my curiosity …and to provide an example of the framing that might have resulted ..

I can not see any stitching errors in the size posted. It looks fine. That is one very long boat and barges as assembled! It must be something to see floating on by.
I'm glad you couldn't find any as I thought they were insignificant when viewing the entire image … The barge traffic locally on the Tennessee River seems to be picking up as I now see them about once a month and before only rarely … not like the Rhine where I witnessed a continuing stream of traffic ...
I use ICE and Affinity both to stitch images and on rare occasions Hugin if I can not get a result I like with the other two. OW supports an auto pano function but I have never tried it and I do not know when it can be used. I will have to look into that!!! ICE will auto fill in the blank areas. If there is anything complicated in those areas it obviously does not work but for skies it will often do a good job.
I was surprised and still wonder why Affinity treats different file types differently in the stitching process … As to blank areas I can select the partially transparent areas and do an inpaint with Affinity and usually will get a reasonable fill.
I like the barge image.
Thank you Andrew

That's a lot of stitching...! Interesting... don't see barges around here. Used to see them all the time in New Orleans.
Thanks, Joe .. Affinity provides pretty good results from these hand held panos and has me doing them again. Back a few years ago they were too much trouble with the tools I had and took significant time to get an acceptable result for me. ...

I think barge traffic has picked up in the last several years along my view of the Tennessee River ... I suspect when cotton was being milled here it was much heavier and maybe a bit heavier a little ways down river .. or use to when there were chemical plants it that direction ...

Nice shot's Andrew. I'm sure the players will appreciate your efforts.

Your post's title put me in mind of the Doors song - now it's rolling around in my head where I'll enjoy it for the next few hours. ;-)

The last Japanese Maple with most of its leaves. Won't last much longer. I'll miss it while the leaves are gone. Kayak looks forlorn. Another friend of summer will have to wait a few seasons again.

Looks like it's not the end of the beginning, or the beginning of the end, but rather, the end of the end.

Nice photos. I bet the players and their friends and family appreciate them.

It was a long trip, but Ballentine Scotch helped.

A lovely set which will, no doubt, bring back lots of memories in years to come for all those involved.

Sounds like you still have much work in front of you, processing wise.

Thanks Jim.

Dave mentioned that song as well. I don't think I am familiar with it so I will have to look it up online. All the CDs and vinyl I have and I do not own a single Doors album, or single for that matter!

I have them posted to a small cloud account I have that was empty and sent the link for view only to parents and had the grandson send it to his team mates. Apparently the players don't share with their parents necessarily!

Yes Pete, too much work. I watched a bit of a you tube presentation on a piece of software that will cull and edit for you, but it is not cheap and an annual licence. Oh to have money to burn!

Not my fence. Belongs to a neighbor who took an assignment from Microsoft and moved the family, wife and two little kids to Paris where he grew up to work there for a couple of years. He spent a fortune on the house/property and doesn't want to do anything about it. He's trying to lease it but he's asking $6,500 a month. It might remain empty for the duration. I haven't seen any activity there.

I might have the fence repaired next year. The tree on his side grew very fast and is pushing the fence down. That fence section needs to be removed and reset. Not something I want to take on myself. I'll pay a fence company to do it, probably in March/April.
