***This week with your a7x/a9x/a1, Sep 2nd - 8th, 2023***

As always, spectacular captures and excellent processing.
Thank you. I'm not super happy with my post-processing so far, but there's simply no time to carefully process every single photo. The really good ones kind of work without too much editing, fortunately.

Back in the day I used to shoot wedding videos, man, what a stressful job. Now that I'm semi-retired, I simply drive the groups out to the wedding site in a bus and then to the reception.

It's much more relaxed, but I still can't help but grab a shot here and there, especially when the wedding is being held in such a unique location.

Point Pinos LIghthouse is the oldest continuous operating lighthouse on the west coast, located on the very tip of the Monterey Peninsula. Earlier today it was overcast and sprinkling a bit, but right before the ceremony the sun broke through into the most glorious day you can imagine.

You can see the two photographers they hired, one shooting video and one taking stills, but to be honest, I think I got the best shot : )
it amazes me how pro photographers can actually see and compose the subject in the rear LCD. at very least i use a 7 inch hi nit field monitor.
I use the rear LCD most of the time. It's not ideal, but running around a festival or a theatre stage with an external monitor would be even less ideal. I almost never photograph in broad daylight though, virtually always in low light conditions.
in a theatre i use the rear lcd, but direct sunlight like in the image posted it would be a guess at best confirming focus with a 1.8 lens. the a74 has amazing af but i still like to know what face it has picked up. the other day i had to turn face af off for that very reason as i wanted to shoot a couple red carpet walking under a street light at night while there were crowds in the background, the camera kept locking on to the crowds faces instead of the subjects.

I have programmed the AF-ON button on my A9 to switch Eye AF on/off for that very reason. Sometimes you don't want to focus on eyes/faces.

i was lucky i had face af on/off programmed in my main menu and did a test run on another couple just before my client otherwise i would have missed the shot. cameras are so good these days, but sometimes too good 😀 that i didn't anticipate.

Nice mate, i know exactly what you mean PP hundreds of images from a shoot, it does get boring after a while. i have actions set up for the mass edits but still gets very tedious. i have given up on shooting full dress rehearsals for money ,i just shoot them for advertising now and edit at most 30 images out of 3000 😁

Thanks! Yeah I'm training ImagenAI to learn my editing style so that it can do my batch editing for me. It needs a lot of data and I want to first make sure I'm happy with the edits I use for training data, so going to take a while... Hoping to have it fully set up later this year.

very interesting, look forward to your results and feedback and if it saves time over actions in PS. i dont use (yet) pre-sets but have been looking at some to buy, just for something a little different for clients.

In July, as usual, Sword Lilies (Gladiolous) of various colors bloomed throughout our gardens. But the merlot colored variety were conspicuously absent, even though we know we had about a dozen bulbs bloom in prior years. It is now September, long after the final blooms have been gone, and we were surprised to wake up to a burst of red not far outside our bedroom windows. After waiting a while for the sunlight to move into that garden, out came the camera to record this unusual occasion:

For us, it is a very pleasant unusual occasion.

A second surprise came today as I was weeding and barely saw this tiny gray tree frog trying to hide deep in the dark shadows of Day Lily greenery. It was kind enough to wait around while I went in the get my FE 90mm macro and even posed as I came in very close. There's very little DOF, but the eyes easily carry the day.

Different. I like it.

Wow, that 90mm macro shot is perfect. Never tried that lens myself, I should give it a go one of these days...

I'm not a huge fan of ultra wide angle lenses, mainly because they are so often used incorrectly, but for me, this is a great use of that lens.

Thanks for commenting. The FE 90mm is a very versatile lens, especially for flora and fauna in our gardens and elsewhere. Here's another example in the same style as the tree frog above:

When you get the front element of the lens this close to them, dragons seem to enjoy seeing their reflections.

I hope you get the chance to try one. I think you'll enjoy it.

Excelent images here.

This is one from earlier this year. I didn´t care much for the color version and had ignored the file a bit, not realy understanding why I initially took the shot. But I´m discovering the opportunuties that black and white offers and I feel the image realy comes alive in black and white. Just some basic B&w conversion and simple editing in LR. I like it.
