Sony A7cII and A7cR and 16-35mm GM II coming on August 29

There's no A7cR or A7Rc.
You seem very certain....?
There will be a single camera announcement, A7cii. Even Sony event says "a" new camera is coming.
There's nothing like having a bet against the favorite! Sony Alpha Rumors has been carrying a two-camera story with purported images and specs for the last two months. You may of course be right, but let's see. We'll all be wiser in a week's time.

The tip is that they're also launching a new 16-35GM lens. The ad doesn't say that either. I guess there's also a possibility they may launch the two cameras on different dates.

Cheers, Rod
I really hope the A7CR is real, but SAR has been wrong a lot in the past tbh...

For sure, but if it isn't real, perhaps Sony will notice that there's a fair bit of interest. To me, there's a very obvious market to sell a small high rez camera to. The A7R series has progressed far since the original A7R, which weighed just 460g) , but has become bloated in the process (A7R5 now 750g). The discussion around the tip of a much lighter model has been popular. Let's see what happens next week....

Cheers, R

I own both and it's already smaller and lighter than the M11.

If they release A7RC, I'd buy it in a heart beat. But nope. There's only one camera coming, which will be A7CII.

There was no camera registration that could correspond to A7RC. There were only 2 recently:
  • WW542541 2.4GHz/5.1GHz (registered on March 1). This was for A6700
  • WW499972 2.4GHz/5.1GHz (Registered on June 25). This was for upcoming A7CII
SAR started a rumor mill to get more clicks or they were trolled.

zero interest in the cii, but if the cr has the 8 stop ibis, I am potentially interested, assuming price is around ~2k.

I feel the 8 stop really is a big deal
I can't see them squeezing 8 stop IBIS into a C sized body. It will be some feat if they do.
It’s largely firmware and sensors not the ibis mechanism according to reviews.
You keep saying that, but I've never seen a review say so, can you quote the review in question? Olympus used to go into exacting detail about what they'd change & minituarize in the motors whenever they improved IBIS, we're not talking about digital stabilization, you sure you're not getting the two mixed up?

I only take pictures, so I despise the flip out screens.
I back this statement 1000% and the onlyreason I won't buy the new a6700 to upgrade my a6600. I saw on one of the rumor sights that listed the A7cR as having a different "4d" fully articulating screen vs the A7cII and if it does they have my money too. As a photographer and as a photographer shooting on the street the flip up screen is as close to a Twin Lens viewing experienced and I love it, a swing out screen for horizontals is a bad idea the way I shoot and think it is a step backwards for photography and I have no want to shoot video.

4D fully articulating screen I really hope!!!!

I think I see the line you're thinking of, but I wouldn't draw any conclusions based off that alone, in most instances any big improvement to IBIS has come about because the mechanics themselves were upgraded.

Hi,

Well, that's a good line of reasoning.... You may be right. I guess an assumption there is that the tipsters who spot the registrations spot them all.

If you're right, the question of 'who trolled who' is an interesting one. I don't know that we'll be able to resolve that, but best wait to see what surfaces next week.....

I think it’s reasonable to assume that it includes hardware improvements such as increased accuracy on motion sensor and actuator. But wouldn’t a brute force 2.5 stop improvement mean 6.25x increased distance of travel? Even if it’s just 2.5x I see that as practically impossible.

so even if nobody knows exactly what is done, it’s got to be largely controller based

Maybe, although that's assuming it lived up to the original rating and lives up to the current rating (5.5 vs 8 or whatever), but I don't put a lot of stock into CIPA's rating/testing, it seems too easy to game it... Everyone and their mom was matching the rating of Oly's older IBIS implementations but in practice that still looked far smoother in video and could still do 1-2s handheld with ease, which is not something I've ever managed with an A7R IV, even at wider FLs.

Other sources now confirmed that indeed Sony will announce three products on August 29:

1) Sony A7cII:
  • 33MP sensor of the A7IV
  • Bionz XR, AI processor
  • 5 stops IBIS
  • 10fps
  • 100-51200 ISO
  • 10 bit 4k60p, S-Cinetone
  • 2,36 milion dot EVF
  • 3 inch fully articulating LCD screen
  • 759 AF points
  • Lens breathing compensation
  • One slot only
And that front wheel in the grip. Pretty important imo.
2) Sony A7cR:
  • Same body as A7cII
  • 61MP sensor of the A7rV
  • 8k recording like the A7rV
  • 3 inch fully articulating LCD screen
  • One slot only
  • and other specs equal to the A7rV
Same here.

DPR added this line in the preview of the most recent bodies FWIW (which gained 1.5 stops instead):

" Sony has said the use of a higher-precision gyroscope, improved communication between the camera body and lenses "

Then followed it with the bit about the algorithms, I'm guessing someone at Sony PR saw how the original line was being read, heh. So a little of both, it remains to be seen how improved it really is vs the older bodies but anything is welcome IMO.

After decades of hopelessly wrong predictions, it seems I have largely been spot on, particularly in terms of a super attractive total package. Think I will pick one up at the first promotion

Haha, good answer. Was an interesting release day to be sure!
