POLL: ARE YOU BUYING A Z8, OR NOT?

Wow! It's amazing how many perfect people there are out there that have so much criticism of such insignificant issues.

Sorry, Guy, that you are being subjected to such disdain! I get what you were saying, maybe not perfectly correct or could be said differently, but certainly not worthy of all the snarky criticism. Yeah, a lot of people flat out not interested in a Z8. Who cares if there are nearly as many that are interested in all the other categories? I suppose a better poll may be simply, buying a Z8 or not buying a Z8.

Good luck, Guy.
See my response above to the OP. While I can't speak for others, there was nothing disdainful or disrespectful about my response. I literally just pointed out the flaw in his statement and provided facts from his own poll and wording to demonstrate what I meant. I have no ill-will toward you or the OP in any sense.

Interesting results so far. Overwhelming majority of respondents are not interested in the Z8 and about half as many are upgrading from another Z body not a Z9. Surprising that so few are upgrading from a DSLR, Nikon or other.

I think a poll like this that includes "will" and "will not" buy should somehow include people who looked at the poll but choose not to participate. My thought is that someone who is purchasing a Z8 will be more likely to participate than someone who's not. I therefore think that the "Not interested and Rather buy a Z9" numbers are underrepresented. I would be interested in seeing the total number of unique individuals who visited the poll. I would then say that a substantial number of non-partakers of the poll are not in the market for a Z8. I will say that at looking at just the first four questions (Upgrading, Adding and Replacing) the spread of votes is very telling and paints a good picture of the motivations behind Z8 buyers.

I agree. I didn’t check a box because Maybe/Undecided was not an option.
I am a genuine Maybe. I want to wait a little while and get a better feel for what the Z6iii (and perhaps the Z7iii) are before deciding.

I'm 98% tripod-mounted, manual focus w/ PC lenses. Only thing this has better than a D850 for me is the 2 way tilt LCD.

And Nikon, release some new PC lenses already!

With experience I bet you will love the shutterless mirror free operation along with many other qualities of the camera over the D850. I have :-)

As I shoot more and more still and video for mission critical applications it had become problematic to back up my Z9 with my Z7II.

The Z8 fixes this beautifully.

Nothing comes close to NRAW 12 bits Nlog video quality and having the ability to shoot in a multi-cam set up with time code is just great.

The MC-N10 attached to the DJI RS3 Pro is best in class in terms of capabilities and ergonomics.

I would buy a d500 mirrorless replacement
In other words, you'd buy a Z8 if it were $2500-$3000?
I am also curious about this. I see several people hoping for a mirrorless D500 replacement, and I have to wonder if it’s typically due to price? Size and weight between the D500 and Z8 is comparable, the Z8 has significantly more tech and can be used in DX mode offering basically the same resolution while also offering full frame when that makes sense. The only places I see a noticeable advantage for the D500 are price and battery life.

So I have to wonder: if the Z8 had been released at $2500, would people still be asking for a D500 replacement? Is battery life the bigger concern? Or is there something else significant that I’m missing? I’m not super familiar with the D500 in-hand, so I’m genuinely curious, not trying to stir the pot or be combative.
I’m not in the D500/DX camp anymore, preferring (and being able to afford) to shoot FX and crop later. However, even though I shoot with a D850 and Z9, I fully understand the desire for a less expensive mirrorless D500-like action camera.

Not everyone can afford a $4K action camera. Secondly, many, if not most in the DX camp, either don’t need or don’t want a full frame camera. And they’re not looking for a handout. I think most of them find the Z8 price reasonable for what it offers. But they’re happy with DX crop, see no need to pay for a 45MB sensor and larger body when a smaller and less expensive one would do, and are asking for a body designed and priced for their needs with some Z9 trickle down tech.

To me, it’s pretty clear from comments I’ve read since the Z9 came out that there’s a huge hole in the Z body lineup for a DX format action camera at the same price point as the D500.

I sold off all my D cameras and f mounts for the Z glass and the anticipation of a Z8
