My days with Pentax - reminiscing - photos

Hello Darren M

I am still posting online, though I get lazy about it.

I hope you don't mind that I write now about this picture.

It's a masterpiece !

I did download it and will show it my children:

I love that you focused to her left eye. Around her left eye her skin get this warm light from the hat... and on this way it looks like as if you can see in her left eye the warmth of her soul. It is a masterpiece !

My children will probably use in the futures cameras with eye AF and all their AI would have focused to the near by eye, her right one....and they had mist this masterpiece. I will show them your picture, for to say that: let not always let the AI of a camera decide the focus point..... decide it yourself.

Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful portrait picture

best and warm regards

Wow there's some old Pentax stalwarts on this thread. Greetings to all from someone who has largely, and reluctantly, migrated largely to MFT. I look back warmly to my Pentax-dominated days, which started in November 2002, with an Optio 430RS, and then a Pentax *istD, which I still have. I had a succession of Pentax bodies until the K5 and Kx.

I'd like to share this photo from last New Year's eve. It is a special one for me, as it indeed is the last photo my Pentax K10D ever took. After taking this photo, the shutter jammed closed permanently. I couldn't repair it by myself and some repair shops I talked with said it's probably not worthwhile to get it fixed. So, you could say my nearly 15-year journey with the K10D ended with a bang.

I used manual mode, long exposure time and my usual choice, 2M★★ JPEG recording.

It was a brilliant camera I got its smaller sister k200d. I like the ccd sensor effect " green color ".

It is nice shot by the way.
Thanks a lot, I think the green colour cast might be caused by the LED street lighting.

Here's a random few. Taken with the *istD or the K10D.

Thank you for all the photographic memories. I do remember most of your shots. But I do miss your flickr feed. I think it was you, but the flickr had a lot of manual lenses there that got me curious, and continues to this day.

Who else remembers staring at Bojidar Dimitrov’s K Mount page lens resolution tests for hours?

Well, the data is still out there, but the site has moved. So as a parting gift, here is a link for the road.

Ahh the good old days, heh.

Ahh, the good old days of objective testing. Popular Photography did both objective and subjective tests.

OK, another go at this...

I bought my *istD in January 2004 once they updated the firmware to provide the green button compatibility with older lenses. I joined DPReview in September 2007 and for 11 years was mostly a lurker, averaging 2.25 posts a months. So I recognize a lot of the old names but I might not be memorable to them. In the past five and a half years since I retired my time spent here has jumped up to 42 posts a month. So when people say this forum is filled with old, retired guys they just might be right :-)

I thought that I would post one picture from each k-mount digital camera that I have owned since 2004 (one is a repeat from my post above.)

Hi Doug,

A cracking selection of photos and I really like the "train" and was wondering if this was on a Via train and taken in the winter time? I ask, because, I took a (kind of) similar snap on Via in January 2014 on a trip betwixt Vancouver and Winnipeg

Jack,

Great minds think alike!

It was. We took The Canadiann from TO to Vancouver in November 2010. This is while we were stopped at Sudbury Station at about 7am in the midst of fog.

Cheers,

Doug

P.s., my processing on this photo stripped out the Metadata. It was taken at ISO 1600 and I had to you Topax DeNoise on it. That would not be needed with any of my current cameras.

Awesome pictures, thank you for the memories.

Thanks again Eric,

I think you must be thinking of someone else when it comes to manual lenses. The only manual lens I really used was my Zenitar Fisheye. I still have that, and thanks to cheap adapters, I can enjoy it on my new camera.
My flickr is still around, but since I stopped paying, I can't add new photos.

Cheers.

A very cool photo, Doug, and I did my trip using my Pentax Q7 w/ 15-45/2.8 (equivalent to a 70-200/2.8) and for a wide angle I used my Ricoh GR IV ;). Whereas for the last several years my go to kit has been a K3 w/ Tamron 70-200/2.8 and a DA 21/3.2 for my wide angle needs :)

Cheers and continued good shooting :)

Hi, Mr Pentaxian of the Year ;)

Long time no see and nice photos! Btw, you are now using Nikon? Still, or have yet changed to another brand? Just curious.
Hi .I am still using my Pentax gear " k1ii k5iis k3 ii " and a lot of fa * fa Ltd lenses. I just find a hard to buy and sell Pentax gear in uae and Egypt so me and my family " wife, sons " uses what are easy to find in the market. Fujifilm and Nikon have strong market in middle east. Pentax? Maybe iam only the only one who uses the brand.

I hope I didn't miss the reply. I think you meant me by Mr pentaxian
Not exactly, Lance was really elected as the "Pentaxian of the Year" officially by Pentax USA in 2008:
