I have evolved from a camera oriented photographer many years ago to having my lenses drive what body, FX or DX, I bring. Now I think of bodies as whatever I have that will let the lens perform at its' best.

Do lenses or bodies drive you photography? Or do you see them as a package? Or perhaps you are not too worried about you camera and lens as long as you can get the shots you want?

So far respondents seem to consider the body and lens together or to be most thoughtful about lenses.

Interestingly, no one is most concerned about the camera body. I am surprised the passion on the Z-forum and DSLR forums is not showing up here as a strong advocacy for on or the other body..

Hi,

Lenses for me. I pick them for specific uses. And then keep on using them across bodies. Eras, really. For Nikon, they to back to circa 1970. And I'd still use them on a Z9. And I have also used them on Canon via an adapter. A very thin adapter. ;)

A couple are screw drive AF ones which I need to still AF on a Z. So, I have yet to buy a Z until someone makes said adapter. But that might change before long. If the much talked about Z♾️ winds up being 60-some MP. I'd go for that rather than a Fuji GFX 100s.

That has me back into Medium Format with Pentax 645 and 67 lenses. Excellent performance and so low cost they are practically free. And, I'd even use them eventually on a Z♾️ for things which don't move on a tilt/shift adapter.

Anyway, lenses are far more important to me than the bodies which constantly come and go.

Oh, and I also have an AI 58/1.2 Noct which also has been used on so many bodies. And I'd not buy a New Noct for the Z (I don't think) and just keep using my old original one.

I agree, lenses outlast bodies and good lenses are good on almost any camera.

Maybe because people need to think about what is important instead of just shooting from the lip, so to speak.

One would think, what with all the purple faced passionate arguments about bodies on this website that bodies would be more important than anything. But so far this thread has attracted people I respect and who appear to be deeply experienced photographers that know more than a little of which they speak.

I largely photograph small birds and birds in flight, often in difficult light. This puts a great demand on my camera having a high frame rate, large buffer, fast AF system, excellent dynamic range, great cropability and excellent high ISO noise performance, On the other hand, if I don't have quality lenses, I'm not taking full advantage of the camera's capabilities nor capturing the types of images I strive for. So, as much emphasis as I put on having the right camera, I chose the integrated system response.
