much I didn’t know, and I’ve been an active photography enthusiast for over 40 years. I think I’m going to subscribe to his paid site. Does anyone here subscribe to his site and do you find it useful beyond the free YouTube videos?

He is the best of the best and well worth becoming a member. He is a terrific photographer that knows Sony like no other and has a teaching background. Money well spent.

Mark, is that you?
I know right, I’d hope that’s not his typical MO. 😆😆 But his videos are pretty good though.
It isn’t his MO (we could speculate whose it might be, but let’s not!). Mark Galer is knowledgeable and helpful, but not someone who would resort to sock-puppets.

I will be sending some money his way to get a couple of his e-books. I have already followed his guidance in setting up custom modes (and customised them further). He explains why as well as what, and that is key yo going further.

I don't see too many pay channels on youtube. What does he offer in the pay section and what is his genre ?

Have you been hiding under a rock :-)

Very methodical in how he sets up Sony gear. He covers things you don't even know is there or even possible. I just love the guy for being so easy to tune into.

Danny.

It is not a YouTube subscription but a Patreon subscription:

I have had enough interaction with Mark to say he is also a great person. 100% class. I know it must sound like I’m on his payroll, but he is simply someone I can endorse without hesitation.

Yeah, not necessarily under a rock, but have been a Nikon shooter most of my life then became heavily invested in Sony and since retirement have been looking into becoming better versed in all areas of photography so his name popped up with many Sony shooters.

I only found his patreon last week and have been going through the A7iv (and non-camera specific) stack of videos and the A7iv book since then. It's all so beautifully produced it humiliates Sony's pathetic offerings. They're complete idiots for not fully hiring/buying this guy and his content and making it the official documentation for the camera, available for free! It would make far happier users of their cameras and sell more of them.

As I live in Australia, I am familiar with Mark as he is one of the longest serving Sony Ambassadors. I've been to several events with him as one of the presenters and he is as easy going and personable in real life as he appears in his videos.

I am one his Patreon subscribers on the Premium Tier.

He has a very good range of items for his subscribers. My Tier has the following:-
  • Access to over 20 member-only 1-hour Photography Seminars that cover a range of topics from choice of camera gear, imaging workflows and post-production editing specials (together with access to the Raw files being edited).
  • Access to Exclusive eBooks to Download (including camera specific eBooks, problem-solving guides and general photography eBooks such as Colour Management, Post Production editing and Digital Photography).Full-Frame Camera eBooks covered include: A7III, A7RIII, A7C, A7RIV, A7IV, A9, A9II, A1 and A7RVAPS-C Cameras covered include: A6000, A6100, A6400 & A6600Compact cameras covered include the RX100 VIICamset Files are available for the following cameras: A7RIV, A7RIVA, A1, A9II, A7IV and A7RV
As an example his Camset files are great especially if you've just got a new camera like I have and facing all the new options to configure/customise.

The Camera guides are certainly very comprehensive. The style is very visual with showing rather than writing much of the information.

If you want you can subscribe for just one month, download everything and then cancel. He even mentions this on his page - https://patreon.com/markgaler

If you want something that explains almost everything in detail, I would recommend checking out Gary Friedman's books.
I have bought some of his e-books in the past, and they are especially useful for those new to Sony mirrorless cameras.

I subscribe to his patreon site and find it helpful. He has a video for everything Sony and many of them are for subscribers only.

He's a real professional, I love how he explains things, great to listen to.

The fact he's also a motorcycle rider gives additional points :-D

I have been a subscriber on his patreon site for more than a year. The amount of information Mark provides either on YouTube or on his paid site (patreon) is simply stunning. He is a top notch educator and has a very deep knowledge of the Sony ecosystem.

He's already a Sony Ambassador (ie gets free stuff and advanced access to new stuff) and makes money himself from his videos, so why would Sony pay him when he (and many other great content creators) are happy to do it anyway?

I have been a Patreon supporter off and on. Overall I'd say it is absolutely worth it to join for at least a month (it is just $10). Also I like to support his excellent work in general, and don't mind paying $10 here and there to support the work.

There are dedicated Camset files to program your camera (nearly all semi-recent Sony Alpha cameras are supported) into a dedicated Portrait, Action, and Landscape modes for 1, 2, and 3. These work extremely well by default and significantly improve the overall functionality / work flow when using the camera (of course you can change them to your liking).

There are also 400+ page e-book presentations that go over the many camera features in detail. This is a nice compliment to Sony's own documentation. Also within the e-books are many linked videos showing how to go over items.

Last there are many seminar videos that cover various topics, and there is a nice general Q/A section available for the premium plus members.

Yes so overall I'd say, yes check it out for at least a month. He is very clear, that he doesn't mind if you just subscribe for a little while, and then come back later. I also must say he and his team is very active in updating the e-books, camset files, and other items as needed when new features are added. This is why it is good to periodically rejoin as needed.

Because only a small fraction of sony users have probably gone to the trouble of paying for his patreon and getting the book/video/camsets. They are so good compared to the official stuff that accompanies their cameras, they should be the standard for Sony that every Sony user (and potential Sony user) sees. They would sell more cameras/lenses/accessories. Would cost them pittance in comparison.

Sony would pay him rather than you and me.
