Niken P950 or P1000 for birding

It is a good snug fit and the camera fits just fine sitting flat. The case has decent padding on all four sides and the bottom padding feels thicker than the sides.

Wow nice and decently priced too. What is its length? From back of the camera to the end of the lens?

I see there's enough space in the front to leave the lens hood on too-- so some clearance from the front of the lens to the side of the bag!

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.
-Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961

The interior dimensions are 8.5 x 6 x 6" so 8.5" from the back of the camera to the end of the lens hood. The fit from the front of the camera to the back is snug so the camera does not shift that way and I stick the strap into the open area next to the lens to limit movement in that direction. Haven't had any issues at all, the sides are stiff enough on the outside that I can't feel the camera inside.

Thanks that sounds ideal. I don't like carrying cameras in my hands, I'd rather put them in a snug bag like that (less obtrusive and some shock protection in case of a bump or fall.)
