I see that DXO just release Nik Collection 5. I use v3.

Anyone upgraded to v5....& if so....it is worth it for $75?

You can see what is new compared to any earlier version here.

https://nikcollection.dxo.com/why-upgrade/

Select your own version.
It's going to be very personal I guess - I have to say that I upgraded and do n't get any better results, nor do I find it any easier to use. Some of the UI looks kind of neater and more modern, but if anything I find it less intuitive and easy than the older versions, so it is a mixed bag. If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't bother, but your experience may be very different

I also found it did NOT play well with mac silicon, I had loads of issues - no idea if others had the same. Lots of artefacts when round tripping back to LR or C1, making the edit unusable. I moved to win 11 and at least those problems disappeared

Nik collection 5 came out a few months ago. I upgraded from the old free Google version only because that free version became unusable when I got a laptop (Surface Book 3) with a resolution display. Took them a few years, but DXO finally made Nik compatible with modern displays. The UI looks a little better, but functionality seems unchanged from the years' old free version...

If you look at the masking functionality added for Control Points there is a major improvement. Using the new Luminance and Chrominance sliders you can make very precise masks with little effort.

There are 4,500+ new camera and lens combinations for Perspective Efex.

Overall, fewer bugs, and more functionality.

For me, it was worth the upgrade price.

You can download the manual here .

Ah yes, that’s true! I’d forgotten about that…. I don’t use the Upoint feature much outside of Viveza. I’ve ended up using Luminar more than Nik because it gets me to the results I want faster

But, Silver Efex Pro 3! Neo does not do B&W as well as Silver Efex Pro or even the the discontinued MacPhun Tonality app.

Yes, that's the other component I like: silver efex, along with color efex and viveza. In fact, once upon a time (in the pre-Google era), I bought silver efex as a standalone. Certainly, an unparalleled app for B&W conversions. That said, they made it less convenient in Nik 5 because your preview doesn't update if you arrow-cursor over a filter... you have to click into it now. Oh well....

I totally agree that the upgrade is worthwhile. On of the things I like the most is the inclusion of he new Luminance and Chrominance sliders to precisely mask areas to be adjusted. Also I have a 14" MacBook Pro Max and the software works effortlessly without any problems.

I said that, unlike previous versions, you have to click into each filter to update the main preview of your image. Apparently, hitting enter will do the same thing... an extra keystroke from before, but won't kill me.
Just playing with Silver Efex now:

That kills v. 5 for me. I will stay with v.4.

See my post below. It seems that if you hit enter, it updates. So right arrow, enter, right arrow, enter, etc … not a huge deal

The OP's post confused me. I thought they had released a completely new version, Version 5 has been out for quite some time I actually have v. 5.2. When I upgraded from NIk Collection v.5,2 to 5.2.1 I am completely up t date

The most important feature in v.5 for me was that Viveza was updated for high ppi displays, that was why I updated. Worth the upgrade.

I discovered this "new feature" (clicking does not work) a few days ago.

I also discovered that in Color Efex the image opens by default showing the original image with the first (current) preset below it.

But Silver Efex has never done that... it's a PITA to allways have to go the History and slide it up to show the original (as in colour) version for comparison.

Arrow + enter is a similar PITA.

IMO, DXO has had NIK for long enough to make all components work the same way... and not degrade functionality to make it more work and less intuitive that before...

I have the old free version. I only ever use Silver Efex and Analog. The one thing for me that makes an upgrade tempting is the ability to go back in and redo your edits. If there's a sale this season I will probably buy it.

You can do that by making a copy of all layers, make it a Smart Object in PS, then go to NIK...

I'm waiting (for PL6 and NIK)...

Yes, if I had PS, but I don't.
