This single lens is causing all other lenses to just collect dust. It is great for indoors and outdoors, regardless of situations. All other focal lengths look unnatural after shooting at 50mm. And this lens is sharp edge to edge at the widest aperture. It puts all my other lenses to shame.

For video, its focusing is silent and very smooth. I have not tried to test its weather resistance too much, but I have used it in humid, hot, cold, and dry conditions without issues. I have yet to drop it, so cannot speak on its ruggedness.

Yeah, that one is pretty much standard in mine as well. Pair it with a 20 or 24 and I got most of what I need covered and it all fits in a small bag. Or grab a bigger bag and bring the 105 and I can do just about everything but serious birding. The 50 really is my favorite though.

I agree with your assessment of this great lens. I feel bad because I probably don't use it enough because of my birding proactivity when I use the 100-400 S or my 500PF.... but for Pet (dog) it is fantastic...

I rarely shoot 50mm — to be accurate I rarely shoot with focal length between 30 and 100mm. But tomorrow I will receive a new to me 50mm z-mount. To force me to go out and shoot also using a standard lens.

An uplifting thread, funny title, and your dog has the most beautifully colored eyes! :)

I hear you. I ended up with a Z6, 24-70 f/4, and 50 f/1.8 because I kept hearing about how good the 50 was.

Instead of saying, "That's nice - I'm happy for you Z folk" and carrying on with the Fujifilm kit I've enjoyed for over 8 years now, curiosity got the best of me.

Do I need full frame? No, I really don't. Did I need to get into a second system? No, it's expensive and it complicates things. Do I like my Fujifilm gear any less? Not at all, it's wonderful. Is the sharpness and resolution on the Z6 (particularly with the 50mm f/1.8) significantly and noticeably better? Sadly, yes. Yes it is :-)

I hate it too, because after shooting with it for a week makes me want to have the 50 F1.2S even more. really not a fan of any of those F1.8 primes. But then 50 is not my favorite FL so I will just hold off for the 85 F1.2 S.

I just bought my Z6ii a week ago.

I also bought the 40 f2 and am thinking maybe I should exchange it while I can for the 50 1.8?

I bought the 40 for it’s small size to use shooting city scenes at night. The added size of the 50 wouldn’t bother me…

thoughts?

if you can have only one, yes. Go for the 50. The 40 is so small and compact that it does have its own place. The 40 is comparable to the f mount lenses. The z mounts are better…

Funny. But it's a basic 50mm lens. Sharp yes, but poor build - seen several of these coming apart, there was a thread on the forum recently.

It definitely was a nice lens, but it's the only Z lens I got rid of so far, for me, IT was the one collecting dust. Actually, it probably didn't even collect dust as I used it so little I put it back in the box. I guess I just don't like 50 that much. I thought I could like it and kind of got sold on the performance, but in the end it didn't work for me. So yeah, it's me...not the lens.

I did the same thing with the Fuji 35 1.4... great lens, never used it.

I don't use mine. Can't say I hate it, however.

Not a fan of the nifty fifty's. But when I have used this lens, I have been nothing but satisfied. I have no interest in the 1.2 because of size and price.

The 50/1.8S blows the 40/2 out of the water, it's no comparison. However, the 40/2 DOES have its place as it's much smaller, lighter, and cheaper.

I use my 40 f/2 more than the 50 1.8 sharpness isn’t everything, the rendering of the 40 is something special. I’m keeping both but enjoy the 10* wider fl to boot…

It certainly doesn’t blow the look the 40 produces. The 50 is clinical but the 40 is more than sharp enough with a wonder look to it. All the not corrected flaws make it a stand out…

The 40 is good, but it REALLY struggle at close focus distances. The 50 doesn't have this problem. I enjoy taking photos at minimum focus distance, so the 40 really falls behind here. When you step back or stop it down, the 40 is very very good.

Agree well worth the purchase along with the excellent 24-70 F4 Kit lens - can be brought either with Z6 - Z7 Kit (£600) or 2nd hand for £400 - well worth it.

Not exactly confidence inspiring now, is it?
