*** May 2022 Image & Video Thread

Serendipity is a wonderful thing. :)

The edit is pretty bright, but I don't think it's outside the bounds of comfort; it still works for me.
Yes, I'd back down on the highlights, to bring the details of the clouds back in.

Headed down to southern Colorado over the weekend to do some astro, which I have not had a chance to process yet.

On the drive home I had some great conditions to photograph the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, which are the southernmost part of the Rockies. Hope you enjoy!
Nice photos! I have good memories of the Sangre de Cristos, where I used to backpack in my younger days. They were the closest Colorado mountains to the Dallas area where I lived. The Sierra Club would charter a sleeper bus on a holiday weekend, leaving Friday evening and arriving overnight on Saturday morning. Hike in on Saturday and Sunday, hike out on Monday, get back in time to go to work on Tuesday. Fun times and lots of good photos.

I believe these mountains formed the background to Ansel's "Moonrise" photo, my fav picture ever!

Yes, I do believe you are correct, although Ansel was further south than I was - near Santa Fe, and of course on the west side of the mountains.

There is an interesting backstory to "Moonrise."

Some images I took whilst walking along my local beach a couple of days ago.

Images taken with Sigma FPL using Voigtlander 50mm F3.5 Heliar VM @ F8 and one image taken with Sigma FP with Voigtlander 21mm F3.5 Color Skopar @ F8.

Edited from raw in Lightroom to taste and downsized for FPL images

Great set of photos!

I love this first shot the most.

The way the mountains dwarf the farm house on the plain is fantastic.
You can find similar spots in Vegas, where the various Strip hotels are silhouetted against the mountain ranges surrounding the city. They're almost always shown up close, dominating the frame, so it's amusing seeing how completely Mother Nature overshadows them.

Thank you.

This image has received broader praise than I expected it to. I think I underestimated the appeal of juxtaposition you mention above - although that is why I decided to include it in the first place. But I thought the appeal would be a little more limited, and almost didn't include it. Live and learn!

Thanks again for commenting.

This one felt almost painterly to me, like a Dutch still life.

Wanted to get the moon in the frame on this one; just wish it'd been a bit more prominent.

Here is the first shot in B&W and with a 4x5 crop.

That's awesome. The b&w adds considerable drama to the photo!
not my 'cup of tea'
There are a few things that are lost from the original, color version, for sure.

One thing I noticed as I was switching back & forth between the two version was how cool the original was. So I warmed it up a bit - which really brought out the sun's rays on the mountains, and also gave the trees in the foothills a more appropriate hue - and slightly levelized the horizon. Also a slight de-haze on the mountains.
