Your motorsport shots 5

You could turn off the image preview on the V2 and V3, the viewfinder lag on the V3 was considerably less than the others also. The Viewfinder lives on my V3 just like an integrated one so it doesn't bother me that it's an add on.
Those shots on the V2 were taken with the viewfinder image review off. The EVF lag is very noticeable on these first gen mirrorless, It still can show up with out of position in shots on all but a few modern bodies, they are simply not as extreme.

This is the last shot in a sequence. With a dslr I would have every shot framed with the car central or slightly more track in front than behind the car,

Once again back at Donington, and one again annoyed with fences! Also broke my 100-400 lens, overall a meh day. Cars were nice though.

I've been going to sports car and IndyCar races since I was a kid (mostly at Mid-Ohio), but the experience definitely changed when I started bringing along a pocketable point & shoot camera with a 720 mm equivalent maximum focal length. The results are never as sharp as I want, and the shot to shot delay for standard shooting and complete locking out while saving burst shots have made me miss so many opportunities, but I just can't get myself to make the financial and/or size sacrifices needed to upgrade to significantly better equipment.

All that said, here are some grainy, low dynamic range shots from COTA and Mid-Ohio!

For me, the action and composition are much more important than technical excellence. Makes me wonder why I spent so much on equipment and will spend more because I an OM-1.

Excellent - love these.

Qld Hillclimb Championships held June 4th and 5th at Mt Cotton Hillclimb. Decent weather, albeit cold (well, for here anyway). Here's a few I liked from the weekend.

Nicely done Ian, Are the run off mounds still made from macadamia nut shells?
Ta.

Yes, macca nut shells, they work a treat. Car stats showed 137 kmh into the nuts and 4G longitudinal force. Driver got out fine and car suffered minor damage considering the hit. Would be way worse hitting armco or a concrete wall. I’m surprised other tracks don’t make use of it.

A few shots from the BTCC at croft I brought the old Nikon D3 back out for some of these, it was a pleasure to use.

Turn around quickly after shot.

His Brother is not a bad driver either.

A couple of events in quick succession. Queensland Hillclimb Championships a few weeks ago and a round of the normal Mt Cotton Hillclimb series last weekend. These few are from the normal hillclimb round last weekend.

A couple of entrants going home with some damage. Black Commodore stuck it into the wall a couple of hundred metres after this lockup, I suspect demon late braking trying to make up for the lockup. I missed it, behind trees anyway. The Triumph Dolomite Sprint had a bit of a roller coaster ride off track after a gearbox issue, luckily only skimming the extremities of the track. No bodywork damage, just the box.

I picked a bad time to be at 1/100th and 1/80th of a second :-) just a little bit faster would have been nice.

The Triumph incident looks scary like it could have been ugly.

The Triumph incident looks scary like it could have been ugly.
It was close but he managed to keep it away from the steep part of the slope and not end up on his side or roof. He also missed the macadamia nut shell barrier looming up pretty quickly too and just rested up against it instead of ploughing into it. Good piece of steering in the end.
