If no G9 mk2, then why drop pre burst on GH6 (but add HHHR)?

Pre burst (yes, I know Olympus has similar, but doesn't that only work with certain lenses?) has been just about the most valuable feature to me on the G9, and I most likely wouldn't give it up for a GH6 (unless low light performance was a vast improvement). So why, if there's not going to be a new G9, has it not been included on the GH6, but HHHR has? Is there going to be a G9 mk2, and the HHHR on the GH6 is almost a 'demo' mode - a taster of what's to come?

If there is to be a G9 m2 then Panasonic needs to at least say now, before too many jump ship to Olympus.

Out of interest which pre-burst you find most useful?

i found the 20fps too slow and the 60 fps too short but way more useful

FYI pro capture high works with any lens on oly

Without AF at 60fps yes. For 20fps with AF you need an Oly pro lens.

In regards to the topic, GH6 also has an abysmal burst rate in AFC and lacks live composite. So certainly not the all in one package monstrosity I feared.

SH1 - SH2 would sometimes take too long to clear the buffer and the camera got quite hot. It would be ok for otters emerging from water because the shots are far between, but for dolphins in the Moray Firth or leaping salmon the shots were too close together

Buffer clearing time is the same for pre or normal

But my question is did you find more benefit for 20

or 60 fps?

The problem for me is the GH6 is just too video centric and actually too big too, af is not good enough either. At this juncture Olympus wins as I'm primarily stills, maybe 25mp will come one day to Olympus too.

I have it set on SH1 PRE which of course will clear the buffer faster than SH2 PRE with less shots, it was probably better on SH2 thinking about it because my dolphin hit rate (2018) was greater than in subsequent years when just using SH1 PRE - however, I did miss shots because the camera had locked up (put me off) in 2018, and 2019 and 20 were poor years anyway.

So it does need cooling….

The specs that I have seen so far say 8fps when shooting with AF-C and mechanical shutter and 7fps with electronic shutter.

If these are correct, they seem extraordinarily low especially, for a camera that can shoot at 65 fps (or 75?) with AF-S and has so much processing power that it needs a fan to cool the processor.

I suspect that the specs published so far are wrong, but, if they aren't, I have no idea what Panasonic is doing.

They are no longer using predictions the numbers have stayed static since the GH5

AF's good enough for me, the G9 handles large birds well and that's the only fast moving thing I'd occasionally need it for, but I agree on the size as well - but if the picture quality is there, I might put up with that.

The thing is 60fps is more useful autofocus matters less when you are “stalking “

so all you really need is pre burst high which is my experience having tested all of the modes for few months

Do you mean that they are no longer using predictive focusing? Is that because they are using subject tracking and that needs lower fps rates?

Yes, that is one of the sources from which I got my numbers.

The G9-II is coming. Eventually.

The obviously put a ton of work into integrating this sensor into a m43 body. I can't see them doing that for the one camera.

The current 20MP sensor ended up in 6 cameras in various revisions of the sensor model?

More but attention it doesn’t have any phase difference pixels

do you want a G9 at 25 megapixels and no autofocus improvement??

Who (from Panasonic) said there won't be a G9 mark 2? Honestly I would be more surprised if there wasn't than if there was.

All I would want is the 25MP dual-gain sensor for Dynamic Range boost, and just the G9 features with that. I think that would be an excellent G9 mark 2. Improved stabilization, and any video enhancements, would just be icing on an already wonderful cake.
