X100V Can't copy photos when connect to PC

I'm beginning to wonder if there's a clash going on between the camera trying to implement PtP protocol versus just being a large, heavy memory card reader. You could email Fuji with a description of this issue, or else you could just use a memory card reader. In my experience, even the cheap $19 at Best Buy USB3 reader is much, much faster than my camera, even though it's also USB 3.

I’m having a similar problem. I connect my X100v to my iMac with the supplied cable but Finder does not see the camera as a storage device as I expected. If I remove the SD card and insert it then it sees it and I can drag and drop the files.

That is interesting, but why not use Image Capture? That is a well established program, part os the Mac OS for generations, and specifically intended for direct transfer of photos from camera to computer. It is easy to use and works well.

Thank you for the response. I will look into that tomorrow. I just don’t recall ever seeing Image Capture on my iMac.

Thanks, but what I need to work is Capture One...
Do you mean that Capture One will not load a Fuji file on your Mac?
Capture One loads the files just fine when I connect the SD card to the Mac via card reader. But if I connect the x100v to the Mac, with the x100v set in "Storage Mode", Capture One does not load the images.

The fact is that the camera implements the "camera interface" to a Mac, which is useful only to the Mac app (Image Capture I think it's called), but does not implement the true "storage interface" that is needed to make the content of the SD card accessible via finder etc.

But again, if you remove the SD card from the x100v, and connect the SD card to the Mac, then everything is fine.

It's just a bad implementation compared e.g. to my Olympus E-M1, where I can directly browse and load the images with the Olympus connected via a USB-C cable to the Mac.

It would have been nice to be able to both charge and transfer the images, at the same time.

Ok, I understand your problem.

I don't use Capture One. I just use Image Capture to transfer the files to the Mac from the X100V and process them in Photoshop. Then the X100V starts charging when it is turned off.

BTW, I don't think the E-M1 batteries get charged when the camera is connected by USB unless the camera is turned off, either. At least the charge lights on my EM1x do not come on till the camera is turned off.

Hi, I had the same problem with being denied permission to copy photos. I could see them all but not allowed to copy. I fixed this by unlocking the camera. I noticed that there was a padlock on the display screen for a while but didn't know what it was for. To get rid of it hold down the menu/ok button for 3+ seconds. After that my photos copied no problem. I hope that helps. - Sian

So on the Mac side of things (I haven't used Windows for years), when you plug the camera in via USB C cable, you won't see it appear in Finder - it is not designed/guaranteed to work that way. It is designed (and as referenced in Fujifilm documentation) to connect via Image Capture (a free utility included in Mac OS). Use Image Capture to copy the files up to your hard drive. From there you can import the images into whatever app you choose (eg. CaptureOne, Lightroom).

It may be that when the camera is connected, things like CaptureOne and Lightroom see it and allow to initiate Import, but it is not guaranteed/supported process, and it may not be reliable. It would be great if it was though, as that would remove the need for the 2 step transfer process. (would be interesting to hear if direct import works consistently for some people?)

But for me, connecting the X100V to my Mac with USB cable, transferring photos via Image Capture then into Lightroom, then turning off my camera to leave it to charge is still a better process than opening it up to get the SD card out and connecting card to Mac and Importing that way etc

I faced a similar problem, and I could copy raw files and I could jpg, the problem was solved with the help of Adobe Bridge. The export of all files went without problems.
