R5/R6 Firmware 1.5.0 - Files removed from most Canon web site.

The firmware is back at all sites. It's exactly the same file as on AU and USA sites and on others before disappearing - so definitely not a FW problem but website problem.

To Olivier. Sadly your version of EOS utility did not do the trick either.

I run WIN 10 Pro, could be the flavour of my OS?

Many thanks for taking the trouble

Mike,

I'm also running W10 Pro.
I don't think the culprit is the OS.

Just a question, when you power on the camera after connection to the PC, EOS Utility pop-up automatically, but do you also have a File Explorer window poping up with two folders corresponding to the memory cards of the camera ?

In other words, do you indeed have a memory card in the camera when trying this procedure ?

Yes the memory card is in, has images on as well as the two firmwares.

The utility will not work if there is no card in the camera. No file explorer open

I will try again with just a formatted card with no firmware.

Thanks for taking the rouble

You must format the memory card before doing this procedure.
The file transfert error may be due to the fact that you already have the firmware files on the SD, to be confirmed.

Well I formatted a different card in the camera, looked at the card in Explorer.

Just two Canon folders.Put the card back in the camera, plugged in the USB, switched on. EOS 3 opened, chose Firmware, navigated to the 140 firmware. Confirmed that I wanted, 150-140, pressed next and it failed the transfer.

Have you actually done a in camera, downgrade also?

I did a search yesterday and found these. I didn't post because things were moving along. I never ready anything as I doubt I'll even do it.

Thanks for taking the trouble, really appreciated.

What I did not realise that all EOS utility seems to do is transfer the file to card in the the camera. That is what fails.A part of the140 file is transferred to the card but just 2048kb I tried again with the 150 version and only 2048 is transferred.

I have copied the 140 file to the card, the camera refuses to use it

i told you if you just copy the file on the SD card the camera will tell you it's an old one.
Try with another USB cable and/or use another USB port on the PC.
What kind of SD card are you using ?

I am using the USB C that came with the camera.

When I did the original update I just copied the 150 file to the card in a card reader. Transferring using windows does not work when the camera is plugged in, at least you do not see the file in the Canon folder

Yes I get the old message when there are the 140 and 150 on the card. It is happy to proceed if only the 150 is there and I just copied that in as the transfer had failed, or only partially succeeded

The SD is a Lexar 32gb UHD 3?. It is a fast card.

I don't have another C to C port I will try a USB 3 to C

Why are you still trying to roll back the firmware?

Looks like there was no problem after all. I certainly didn't notice any problem, and the firmware was up the whole time in the US (and most of the world, actually).

Going forward if you just want to be very sure a firmware update is "safe" why not just wait a month before installing it?

File transfer over USB must work. If you fix that you will be able to downgrade.
Personnaly I use USB-C (camera side) to USB3 (USB-A type on computer side) because my computer USB-C if already used by a USB docking adapter.

Can you post a picture of your SD card ? I don't know UHD 3 model ... would you mean UHS-II ?

Well It does not work as well as my home setup tracking with eye focus on the faces in family photographs on the mantlepiece, as version 1.40 I use the same lens at about 1.5m from the pictures. With version 1.4 I could track 9 of the 10 eyes with relative ease, going from eye to eye. The 10th eye was a bit more hit and miss. Now with Version 1.5 I can only reliably track 4 eyes and not always able to track any two eyes on a face. The AF jumps about

a3982bfff9784126a0761a4f4c35ab78.jpg

This was the eye that was always a problem, but it would lock. Now all I get is a lot of squares with this picture, almost never a lock, but only the other eye.

I am not a great fan of the R5, but this test really was impressive, with 1.40, not at all with 1.50. I installed it as I hoped the firmware would improve animal focus, but it does not

The card is a Lexar 32GB V90 HC2 300mb/s or 2000x. I have now tried a USB3 to C, only a 2048kb transfer, like before. The whole file will not transfer, either 140 or 150

I have now tried 3 versions of EOS utility including the one.you kindly sent.I have also managed to revive my dual boot that has a really old EOS utility that does not recognise the camera, so not even first base

I have the exact same SD card in 64GB (SDXC UHS-II)
Do you have a virus protection other then Windows Defender ?
The fact that you can't transfer files to your camera is IMHO not related to EOS Utility.

Well I installed EOS utility on my laptop and tried again. Again just 2048kb transfer. using two different cables

My PC is old and I have had some problems before connecting to devices.

The laptop is very recent

No virus other than Windows.

I can copy the files through Explorer. It is the EOS utility that will not do transfers.

I don't know how it happened for you, but I cannot replicate it.

Unfortunately, now I don't see what could be the problem.
I'm afraid that I'm no longer of any help.

Don't be despondent. You did the best you could and I am grateful for your efforts As we used to say when I used to work, 'nobody died', that is, its not very important in the scheme of things.
