In my opinion Xperia 1 II was one of the best phones in 2020 with great colors and overall style of photo, but details level was step behind Huawei. New Xperia will itroduce great idea of variable optical zoom and i hope processing will be bit better, then Sony can be real alternative for current flagships. I can't wait for first samples.

I'm a happy Xperia 5 II shooter and I, too, am looking forward to the Xperia 5 III. Since I shoot more wide-angle than telephoto the new telephoto doesn't interest me. I'm older than most trees and quite deaf so while I like the front-facing speakers the quality doesn't interest me much. The display on my 5 II needs to be brighter. Other than that, since I play no games and don't even consider watching movies on my phone the display doesn't need to improve other than brightness.

I'm hoping for software improvements for the 5 III that will go to the 5 II also.

The 1 III and 5 III actually has far better speaker than previous gen. It's called Full-stage stereo speakers which can produce 3D sound using Sony proprietary tech.

However, only the 1 III has 40% louder speaker than 1 II. 5 II does not.

It's so sad what happens with Sony.

It's a crime all these reviewers and DxO mark not using these cameras the right way, but Sony is also not helping themselves with that regular camera, which is strange. If you think about it Sony was one of the first to use "AI", "Scene Detection" to "improve" the photos, but their camera today is so dumb and use just a fraction of the cameras's capabilities. Why? Look how much the photos improve with you use the Camera Pro:

Special attention to the dramatic and unbelievable jump in quality when using the Pro camera.

I've taken a few hundred photos using the Camera Pro and maybe six using the standard camera app. I don't think anyone who buys the Xperia 1 II or 5 II to take photos use anything but the Photo Pro app.

People who buy the Xperias to play games might use the camera app but not photographers.

But go look at 95% of the reviews and comparisons out there.

Even DxO unsurprisingly only tested on the "Amateur Camera" to "be fair".

The jpg rendering with the standard app and the pro app seem identical to me. The jpg rendering looks a lot better since the last firmware update.

GSMarena published test of new Xperia 1 III - https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_1_iii-review-2287p6.php

Overall it's the best XPERIA in history, but personally i'm very disappointed of zoom in this phone. Lot of blurry photos and video is not sharp enhough. Proably some hardware issues?
Compared with all other phones, this one seems to apply almost no sharpening at all, so it looks blurry. But that variable zoom... it's a tradeoff for the moving lens?

Anyway, it's happening again.
Go watch the reviews. They all begin praising Sony for that style, for being unique, for giving power tools... and all end criticizing the phone and Sony because they can get the results they wish from full auto putting zero effort and not using the tools that they praised so much a minute before.

GSMArena have just reviewed it, and it did well but not brilliant, especially the tele cams were not great. But the processing was more natural from all cameras than other OEMs, which is great to see.

It would be refreshing to see a comparison of the Samsung S20 Ultra and the Xperia 1 III just using the "pro photo" software. Get a good professional photographer and let him have at it. The comparisons done with the point-and-shoot software are, well, pointless.

Even comparing the Huawei and the Xiaomi and the Samsung seem to be a game for the pixel peepers without a lot of meaning in reality.

I'm sure that it's the same software. It just different modes within the same app. So the difference should mostly exposure settings.

It's just a problem with the software or is periscope cam on the 1 model actually worse than on the 5 model?

I think it's worse than Xperia 5 - here is another review and blurry photos from Xperia 1 III https://www.telepolis.pl/artykuly/testy-sprzetu/sony-xperia-1-iii-test-recenzja-opinie/strona-5

Even main camera take blurry photos 😤 https://www.telepolis.pl/images/articles/sony-xperia-1-iii/zdjecia/sony-xperia-1-iii-foto-02.JPG

I though the camera modules where the same in both models, so the problem is in the software. Is it already fixed or not? And if not, why?
