look how small E-P7 is, remind me of GM1 and i like it

I have both a GM5 and a Pen. Was surprised at how close (relatively) the EP-7 is in size compared to the Pen. I use my GM5 as a second body to my M5MkIII. But if/when it dies, what to do? I initially thought the E-P7 could assume that role, and it still might. Time will tell.

But the more interesting thing is to think about what the combination of the E-P7 and the 8-25 says about the new enterprise. A lens that is admittedly large but very complex and high end. Very Pro. And a smaller camera that incorporates 5 axis IBIS and the 20 mP sensor. And it looks pretty classy. If those reflect the two paths of the new enterprise going forward, that's a plan. It's certainly more thoughtful than Olympus Imaging's "throw spaghetti at the wall and hope something sticks" approach.

We'll probably know more in a couple of years, but as of today, I'm taking the glass half full approach.

I noticed that, being a regular 'stock checker'. I also noticed that the two denim-blue EPL9s which appeared at MPB a day or two ago vanished instantly. I'm probably going to change to a sensible EM10iv in the autumn but if there's a blue EPL9 around, I will be sorely tempted, despite the lack of viewfinder. Perhaps the EP7 will be issued in blue....

It's the same size as the E-M10 minus the EVF, not that small really.

Sizewise it's very close to EPL-10 and yet somehow 90g lighter. Am curious how they did that.

Spec and featurewise, doesn't appear to bring anything new to the table, just a few bits from the Pen F. Metal skin? Can't tell. 1/4000 shutter. No PDAF. Etc.

Filling a hole they imagine exists in the lineup.

Cheers,

Rick

The EP7 will be small, but not that small. I just don't see this as possible when you consider that it is essentially a Pen-F without an EVF. It probably won't have a magnesium alloy body either, so I would guess it will be close to the size of an EPL camera.

That squares with the "leaked" specs.

Size: 118.3mm (W) x 68.5mm (H) x 38.1mm (D)

Weight: 337g (including rechargeable battery and memory card), 289g (main unit only)

E-PL10:

Weight (inc. batteries) 380 g (0.84 lb / 13.40 oz)

Dimensions 117 x 68 x 39 mm (4.61 x 2.68 x 1.54″)

A little lighter, dimensionally near-twins.

Cheers,

Rick

Equivalence and diffraction-free since 2009.
You can be too; ask about our 12-step program.

40g is a surprising amount of mass they shaved off from the EPL9. I wonder what they did.

But will it be any better than the EP5
Depends. It will have a better sensor, but won't be able to 1/8000 mechanical shutter. Probably lack of custom settings. Probably some other things I'm forgetting.

Is it a better choice than an EM-10 4?

Helium?

Compare to EM-10

Looks like every feature I like is in play except splash seals.. and it's small enough to hide away in a storm. So much for me trying to like gx850 and other pens. Thanks OMDs!
