These are some of the first photos I took with my P950 in August. They show the beautiful Willamette River, at Clearwater Park (Willamut River, spelled phonetically from the Calapooya Tribe's language.
The water really is clear here now, thanks in large part to our stalwart governor, Tom McCall and his hard push towards environmental recovery in the 1960s and '70s. For some time previously, the river was an open sewer, carrying many sorts of pollution. It was a disgrace and no one wanted to be anywhere near it back then. That left almost all of its banks undeveloped and much of them have been placed in public parks.
Every spring and fall, runs of steelhead and Chinook and silver salmon come through here on their way to spawning grounds, some of which are in suitable sections, no farther upstream than this. Many times, in the summer, I've seen redds (nesting areas scooped out of the gravel, by a pair of attending fish). I live close enough, that I can tow a kayak here, walking with a small cart and enjoy some great paddling.
You can see the EXIF on my Flickr album, linked below, if you're interested. I shot them with a monopod.
