Rumors: The Fujifilm X-S10 - A new mid-range camera in the works. Thread 3

I think once you pair the X-S10 with say a leather case, you'll get a good sealing on the base of the plate. I mean to be honest, as much as I hold my X-H1, which has one of the better sealings of all X cameras, in high regard, it's no Pentax/Canon/Nikon pro DSLR sealing. Ultimately if you try to pair it with WR lenses and stay weary of the weather and surroundings, you won't encounter any major issues.
One can certainly get by without weather resistance, but without it, relative to the competition, Fuji has left some money on the table given that both Canon M6II and Sony A6400/6600 are advertised as moisture and dust resistant as is the Olympus OM-D5MKIII.
It's not known if it's not dust and moisture resistant, just not weather=sealed?

Thanks for all of the details you have provided on this camera. One thing I haven't seen mentioned or possibly I missed it is the AF abilities. Is it assumed it will be similar to the Xt-30 since it is sharing the 26meg sensor? I use a Fringer adaptor with a bunch of Canon glass and the Xt-30 models and latest bodies all apparently work a bit better with these. I am very likely to buy this body to replace my XT-20. The bigger grip for me is also a sweet update.

You make a good point, all the finer points will be revealed in a few days time.

Fuji wants, it appears, to appeal to all those Sony a6x,m43,dslr aps-c users desperately looking for a small, non-ff, mirrorless platform. The pasm control is familiar, the ibis is a bonus and the front and extra top dials along with an aperture ring makes the usability very interesting! Add in the fully articulated screen and Fuji low rolling shutter in 4k and a pop up flash too and it all looks a great competitive package. Let's hope its uhs-ii, seems likely, usb-c powered and Fuji did their homework!

Fuji does need a compact WR camera to go with the compact WR f2 lenses...WR xe4 (no ibis) would be nice :)

Hi, I think it is safe to assume it'll have enhanced AF capabilities in comparison to the X-T30. I suppose you can expect the AF performance of the X-T4 or something in this ballpark.

I never preorder but I would preorder such a camera.

Can verify: when Olympus says weather sealed, they mean it. My E-M5 has been rained on, snowed on, I accidentally almost dunked it in the ocean once. It's still going strong.

I feel like Fuji is missing out by not improving/touting their weather sealed aspect more.

UPDATE: The X-S10 is not weather sealed.
This news is not going to be well-received. Ha.
at the price point I think it would be hard to expect it to be weather sealed.
Why is wr on a pedestal but ibis isn’t?
exactly...
You can't have both for the price I guess. I actually might have turned in my T3 for this new camera priced at 1099 for WR.

The two gripes I had about my old T30 was the grip and non WR. The new xs10 would have been near a perfect camera if it had WR.

Thank you! If that is the case it will be on my buy list!

The original and follow-up thread have both reached the maximum amount of allowed posts, so here's a follow-up with a roundup of all the rumors:
  • According to rumors, a new Fujifilm camera, called the X-S10 will be one of two cameras launched by the brand within march 2021. Said camera will not be a successor to the X-S1 and is rumored to be a mid-range product.
  • The X-S10 will be an interchangeable camera with IBIS. (Source )
  • According to rumors, the X-S10 will be announced by Fuji on October the 15th.
  • According to rumors, the X-S10 will have a SLR style design.
  • According to rumors, the X-S10 will feature the older NP-W126s battery found in all cameras preceding the X-T4.
  • According to rumors, the X-S10 will feature a selfie screen, much like the one present in the X-T4, X-T200 and X-A7
  • According to rumors, the X-S10 have a MSRP of about $999.Rumors: The Fujifilm X-S10 - A new mid-range camera in the works. Thread 2
  • According to rumors, the X-S10 will have a deep grip.
This thing is starting to look like a mini X-H1.
  • According to rumors, the X-S10 will record RAW riles, when having the "Auto" dial switched on.
  • Here is a size comparison between the X-T4, X-T30, X-T200 and the X-S10
    Comparison-with-X-T200-720x503.jpg
  • Nokishita has leaked additional specifications of the X-S10:"Key specs of the Fujifilm X-S10 include a 26.1-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor, in-body 5-axis image stabilization with up to 6.0 stops, X-Processor 4, 4K 30p video, Full HD 240p slow-motion video, 30 frames per second continuous shooting performance, 1.04 million Dot variant LCDs, apparently, will be 18 different film simulations. #rumors." Translated from Japanese via DeepL.
  • Fujirumors has published a detailed explanation concerning the button layout of the X-S10:
    • Top Plate
      • The Fujifilm X-S10 top plate will have 3 dials, of which 2 will be unmarked and one will be a PSAM dial (more or less like they are on the Fujifilm X-T200).
  • Fujifilm-X-S10-Top-Plate-720x371.jpg

(Pictured here is the X-T200 for illustration purposes - THIS IS NOT THE X-S10 top plate)
    • There won’t be any top LCD, like there is on the Fujifilm X-H1.This might explain also why Fujifilm decided to call it X-S10 and not X-H10 (or “mini X-H1“), as the top LCD is one of the unique standout features of the X-H line compared to all other Fujifilm X series cameras.Other than that, right on the top plate there will be also a Q button, an ISO button and a dedicated video button. And yes, of course there is a shutter button.
    • Backside
      • There will be the usual MENU, AF-ON, AEL, DISP/BACK, DRIVE, PLAYBACK button. There is no D-Pad, but there is a Joystick.
    • Front
      • There is a front command dial. There is no focus mode selector (the M-C-S switch)
UPDATE: According to rumors, the X-S10 will feature a new IBIS unit, which is significantly smaller than the one found in the X-T4.
UPDATE: Additional specs and pictures:
  • Dimensions
    • X-S10 is 126 x 85.1 x 65.4
      X-T4 is 134.6 x 92.8 x 63.8

    • X-S10 weights 465g
      X-T30 weights 383g

There's another thread here with more info on that lens than FR has shown:

Could a third party vendor, or Fujifilm, substitute a rear right dial marked with shutter speed? Now that certain lenses (10-24 ii, 16-80/4) have aperture dials, marked shutter speed would be a huge benefit. Sorry for top posting, image is not cropped. [Add: stickers were suggested]
It's a mini-XH1 indeed :)

I was thinking along the lines of clear stickers with white tic marks printed on them. Another idea would be for Fuji to include extra engraved dials in the box for SS, ISO, etc. The customer could forcibly pull out the existing unmarked dials and then push on the included engraved SS, ISO, exp. comp. dials.

This would be the ultimate in customization.
Excellent idea!

I would put exposure compensation on the right rear dial, and shutter speed on the left dial.

While certainly possible (stickers, at least :) ), I`m afraid it would be of little use without official support through camera firmware itself, otherwise there would probably be no easy way to keep the dial in sync with actual shutter speed value (being even less possible if dial is in 1/3 increments, and more than a single full circle to go through entire range, which might be expected).

man I wish it had dials. would be a great early upgrade path from my x-t20.

hopefully they have an x-t40 with this new ibis in the works.
