Hi.

I have a Canon 5D Mark iii and a 5D Mark iv which I shoot for weddings. I note the 5Div enables me to select auto iso in Manual where I can increase the exposure compensation whilst in this setting. Where the 5Diii only allows for exposure bracketing in manual mode and auto iso, but not exposure compensation.

I asked Canon (Australia) if they can provide an updated firmware to allow this exposure compensation function in manual and auto iso setting on the 5Diii, but they responded by saying that they can not comment on firmware update requests, and suggested that I keep an eye on the updated firmware as they become available.

Has anybody else have a use for this functionality and if so has requested for a firmware update on the 5Diii to enable this function through Canon?

What are chances of Canon updating the firmware on the 5Diii to enable this function?

Thank you

Most probably. That's how this function was brought to the 1DX, via firmware update 2.0.3.
What are chances of Canon updating the firmware on the 5Diii to enable this function?
Zero.

+1 Absolute Zero.

Only twice has Canon added features via firmware, 7D and the 1D X got v.2.xx firmware a year or two ahead of the release of their mk II replacements to keep the models competitive. The 5D III was superceded by the mk IV years ago. They will not go back and add features to a long discontinued product.

I know this thread is a little old. But I've only just got a 5D Mk3 and would love to have EC in manual. Why cant canon do a firmware update for this I'll never know ! In manual you should be able to do anything you wish ! They did so much from the Mk ii to the Mk iii so why did they leave this out. come on canon a new firmware please.

I would think the primary motivation for a company to add features via firmware updates would be to improve sales or competitiveness of current models. What benefit is there for Canon to improve a 10 year body and potential reduce sales of current models ?

Canon wouldn't improve anything on the currently available 5D iv as it could impact on R5 sales, never mind go back a generation :-D

As was stated 9 months ago - ZERO chance. If you wanted the feature perhaps you should have bought a used 5D iv instead of 5D iii.

I'm pretty sure I bought my 5D3 when it was first out in 2013, and it is only 2020.

Or, you get lucky, and they actually made the firmware change in 1D X, which was introduced only a few months later than the 5D3. Agree on there isn't much motivation to upgrade the 5D3 for Canon.

It was released in March 2012 - apologies - it is only 8½ years old, not 10 ;-)

Yes, in June 2012. Was the update released recently, or when the camera was still a current model when it was released ?

Canon has pretty much announced that the 5D iv is "dead" (no successor), so why would they ever consider updating it's predecessor - no chance.

It's a Canon thing. They will not provide it with firmware upgrade, to get this you have to upgrade to 5DIV. Another example: the lower end cameras like Rebels, M50 etc do not have minimum shutter speed option for Auto ISO. To get that "premium feature", you will have to buy a higher end camera ;-) !
