Hello forum,

Im in the process of buying a new portrait lens and i was in talks with a seller to buy the sigma 56mm for a great price. The seller stopped responding so i assum that sale has gone down the drain so im looking a sub 300 euro lens to do the job.

I can buy the 85mm f1.8 for about 150 euros, but its an old lens... How does it behave on an m body? I have the m5.

Thank you in advance!

I ended up finding a good deal for the sigma 56mm, 300 euros brand new, and went with it.

Thank you everyone for the feedback

Excellent move. I have both the Siggy 56 and the Canon 85/1.8, and on the M Series the Sigma wins hands down. The AF is outstanding and it is very sharp wide open. Congrats!

Wow that's a great deal, did you find it locally or online? I'm considering it as a replacement for my EF 50 1.8 STM, I can't stand the glare it produces when shooting into the sun and also am a bit disappointed with the performance wide open.
I found it on a local online platform for resellers. EOS M lenses are rare so i was surprised this guy was selling a brand new copy of the sigma.

Was an online reseller platform, kinda like ebay but local. Go really lucky, the lens is brand new.

Yeah, the AF in video is smooth, the colours are really nice too. Super compact lens too.

I haven't had the chance to put it to a test, hopefully this weekend.
