Hey everybody. I've been shooting and accumulating Fuji X gear since the day the XT-1 was released. I love it, which is not a secret.

But I was contacted last week by a Nikon pro shooter who runs workshops and has quite a nice portfolio. He for several good reasons (we all know what they are) decided to go to Fuji X. We met via the Medium Format Board. He is going to switch to Fuji X now, just like so many of us have done, right?

He wanted to buy my entire Fuji X arsenal. I resisted and agonized.... I didn't want to do it. But I haven't shot Fuji X much since I started diving into GFX 20 months ago. I really planned to get back to it though. I almost bought the XT-4 several times since its release which would have kept me in X. I was starting to get antsy and really wanted an XH-2. I was going to wait.

But the offer came for a one-time big sale last week, so I finally agreed two days ago to a total price for it all after much discussion and negotiation.

I will him ship the 30 pound box tomorrow. It is packed well. And the Man already paid me! Now that is trust.

So right now I have zero Fuji X gear (but lots of GFX gear). I feel like I sold my wife and kids.

But I'm Fuji all the way and I have your back and you guys are sitting right where you need to be. The sweet spot! Absolutely, Great ergo. Great size/weight/mass/feel. Fantastic glass.

I am going to shoot something along with Fuji GFX and the Q2. Probably the R5. Or maybe the new Sony that will announce soon. Not sure yet.

Anyway, you guys have fun shooting and you are in the right place. This is a great camera equipment forum and the awesome Fuji Board is moderated by the best guys in the DPR network. Keep posting and having fun. Don't let the FF MILC attackers get you down. They are just jealous of you. 😁

Thanks Jerry, Bob T and Uncle Bob.

Here is the two shots I took of the gear right before packing it to send to the buyer.

Adios. But I'll still be around some.

Wow. I bet it almost felt like committing an act of treason.

See you around on the Leica forum, and maybe the Nikon Z later this year.

Man, that GFX :\

Part of me is really envy looking at all that glass... There's another voice in my head telling me to do the same.

The Fuji's grip can be tight - you may want to let it go, but may not want lent you go 😂

I'm keeping both systems!

(er - and the Canons too. Hrm.)

Not a frequent poster but an avid reader and I'm shocked.

I have recently acquired a new Q2 but I will always use Fuji (XF3/1/4 and 56/1.2).

Enjoy the "new life"!

The mighty 16 and the Brick are waving goodbye to you with tears in their eyes as they fade away...

you mention a new sony...

The new a7S? for video I assume?

End of the day, it's just gear, nothing more. Tools to aid your creativity. I've never been so dedicated to any make or model, I've used Nikon, Sony, Olympus, Panasonic and of course Fuji ... all of them doing the same job - getting me out there to shoot. Whatever you use, enjoy, forget the labels. Many of us are here because it happens to be what we shoot with, nothing more. Never get too attached to gear.

It does not make any sense to me to sell 1 system and then buy another one. What are you planning to shoot with FF that you could not do with APSC?

Anyway, good luck.

. . . you've lived and loved, but then fell out of love with X. Or is it more about the siren call of the newer mirrorless brand offerings?

For better or worse - it's the end of an era. Good light, and good luck.

Across the pond, I can hear the cries of horror coming from those lenses... Well, at least they will still have each other at their new place :)

Thanks for your funny and well written entertainment. And not the least, the advice and help you have given here. Hope to see you back someday though :)

Ciao, Greg. I’ll continue to wield the Brick in your honor.

..and if an XH2 is announced with a new sensor and new features? What the heck, it's only money, right? Cheers.

Hi Greg,

All the best ...... Enjoy the MF. It's a funny thing but a couple of decades ago when all I had was a medium format camera, a tripod and two lenses, I hiked all over the place and got more images than I do now that I have an XT and maybe 20 lenses..... It's being 'out there' that counts.

Cheers, Rod

I'm sure Greg has the answer to that but my guess would be the latter. At times, when I've purchased an alternate product line (regardless what sort of product it is) and kept the first one around "just in case," the older product ends up just taking up shelf space. At that point, you're probably better off just focusing your energy on your "new love" and selling off the old gear rather than riding the depreciation curve down and having the old gear collect dust. Were I making a similar move (extremely unlikely), once I've determined that the new gear meets my needs, the old kit would be on Craigslist (or whatever selling platform ends up being the best).

There's definitely some truth to what you say.

However:

Resale value is frequently low. The question I ask myself is this: I have a good, known copy. Am I absolutely sure I will never use this again? Or are there use cases where I would? And I reverse the question: Would I buy this (known good) camera for the price I am getting? I've sold a lot of cameras. Some I've missed. So lately I've not been selling, mostly because the cameras still work great and it's not worth it to me to sell. But that's just me.

Pick the camera for the job:
  • Sports. I use the Canons for Sports. I've tried the X-H1; it's...kind of usable. Forget the GFX; the blackout is a killer. Forget the Panasonics, etc. Maybe the high-end Oly's would work. People say good things about the A92. Not tried them. The Canons are Big. Bulky. They take 4000 shots on one charge. And they work great.
  • Travel. I use the Fuji's for travel, landscape, and portraits. X when I want light, documentary style. GFX when I want amazing images and I can take my time.
  • Studio. GFX or 5DSr.
I realize everyone is different and I'm somewhat lucky to have the ability to afford and keep what I have.

Well, there go my hopes of someday visiting the only Fuji gear museum this side of Japan. Thanks for all of the entertaining posts and stories (lost 16mm in the trunk of your car?? 😁)

Best wishes on your gear journey going forward. I may soon be following suit (on a much smaller scale though) as I am hearing Nikon's Z-iren call...

I am new to Fuji and this Fuji board and I agree, so far the board has been friendly. I went to Canon boards and there are always arguing and complaining where as here, I am still using my old X-T20 and still enjoying street photography and shooting travel and family photos. I don't need the newest greatest whatever R5 R6. And I feel like people here enjoy their cameras and less on debating why make an F11 lens or why would you make the M50 II better than the M6 II, etc.
