Finally decided to buy a x-t3. I am looking for a used one and found one with a shutter count of 7000.

Guy said it was used very little. However, 7000 shutter count seems like a lot.

I wondered if there are any common errors on the x-t3 that I should be aware of and look out for.
What would be good to test before buying the camera?
What about the lens, anything to look out for? It’s the 18-55mm kit lens.

Any other advice is much appreciated as this is the first camera I am buying in this price range.

7000 is not a lot. When did the owner buy the camera?

Good luck with the purchase,

Bas

I wouldn't bat an eye at a shutter count of 7000. It's barely been used.

Depends on the user. Say the owner took 100 photos per day, then he used it for 70 days. I bet the average camera owner (not enthusiast) only goes out once per week to shoot. That would mean it is over a year old. A lot can happen in a year with the camera.

You're right. Shutter count is only an approximate and tangential metric for how much use a camera body has seen.

Warranty, this way no worries about buying used gear.

Buy from a place like KEH and you get 180 day warranty. This is great protection when buying used. Maybe not the lowest price. BUT- they accurately rate the condition of the gear they sell. Here are some: KEH - X-T3

Also, UsedPhotoPro is a great place to buy gear. Same 180 day warranty. They don't have any X-T3 in stock today but they often do. They accurately rate the condition of all used gear they sell.

Sometimes the light's all shinin' on me,
Other times I can barely see.
Lately it occurs to me what a long, strange trip it's been.

Buying from an individual? I would want to know if he was the original owner. Or has the camera been sold several times - maybe there is a problem with the camera.

Also, original boxes included? I find that owners who retain the boxes tend to take care of the camera.

If spending a large amount of cash, for me, I feel more comfortable buying from a reputable dealer. Getting a 180 day warranty take away the worry of getting a bad deal.

When you buy from "some guy" on fleabay you never really know what you are getting. Then if not happy you have open a case and go through hoops to get your cash back.

Those prices aren’t much less than buying new from places like B&H

Consider this.

Typical prices for a used XT-3 hover in the upper 800 to 950 range.

right now, a factory fresh XT-3 is $1199.

You may want to just buy new for the piece of mind and warranty.

As for the 7000 shutter count, I've done waterdrop photos that are 1,000 per session, so that's not a lot. Lol.

Regarding shutter count, can the count be altered i.e. to a lower number? Reason I ask, I bought a beautiful used XH-1 from a reseller (not original owner). No issues with the purchase but I ran the shutter count, and it was only 175! Based on the serial number, camera was produced in mid-2018 but shows no sign of wear.

It is not a lot at all... shutters are rated to at least 100,000 shots.

Not really...

Not really... just look for obvious scratches on the glass.

Some people just don't really photograph a lot even though they buy nice cameras...or they have so many cameras that they can't use them all. I had a friend with 3 D750s alone... and dozens of other bodies. He sold one to my friend and it had 450 actuations.

Yes it can - although its easier on the X-T3 than the X-H1
