Well, I have been lurking around on DPR for years but apparently I’ve never been a “member” or whatever it’s called.

I am going crazy trying to sort out which camera to buy next. I started with a Nikon D50 and still love it really, shooting mostly with a 50mm 1.8. I have had a few point and shoots since including a Lumix lx3. I currently use my iPhone 11 Pro quite a bit.

so, here is the reason I am posting... I want a smaller fujifilm like the X-e3, x100v but can not afford the V right now. What I really want is something small, fast accurate af, not expensive. I want jpeg quality and the film simulations. I don’t want to do much if any post work. I recently watch a few videos on how the x-t100 might fit the bill. I did recently have the Lumix G7 for a couple of months since a friend wanted me to video their wedding...plans changed due to covid I sold it since I didn’t care for the image quality for stills didn’t love the bokeh and the noise looked a little off.

Pics only. I can shoot video with the iPhone. Mostly taking on hikes, mountain bike rides, camping... don’t need a long lens at all.

Any help deciding what to get would be greatly appreciated. thanks!! I just need a little push!

You might like the X-E3 paired with either the 23mm or 35mm F2 lenses. It's a nice little kit, quick focus, great image quality and fun to shoot.

How about the XT-30 with the 27mm pancake? It's not as wide as the X-100V, but still somewhat wideangle.

XE3/XT20/XT30 with the 27... that will serve your compact street needs...add more lenses from there.

LOL, you thought your brain was fried before.

I bought the X-E3 as a compact travel camera and it has been great. The X-E3 is on sale for $200 off. I really suggest you buy the kit with the 18-55 "kit" lens. It's a great lens and you won't have another chance to get it that cheaply.

A week after my X-E3 arrived my wife and I left for 10 days in London and Paris. It took it, the kit lens and the Samyang 12mm. It was a welcome change from hauling around my Canon 5D2.

Another advantage of the E-3 over the X100 is the ability to use vintage lenses. I often shoot with my vintage film Canon FD and Leica lenses. Manual focus is easy with focus peaking and EVF. You can pick up various film lenses for next to nothing and they really perform well.

Also consider the X-T30 with the newer processor and sensor, but it is significantly more expensive. Don't worry about being a generation behind, though. I have the X-E2s, two generations back and it works well and takes wonderful photos.

Thank you all so much for the replies that have already been made. It’s helping me lean towards the xe3 which is sort of what I want besides the x100v... it looks like the $700ish is a common price for the xe3 with the 23mm lens. But, if the kit lens is good then that might be a good route. I just love a good prime!

Another question, when using touch focus does the spot go back to default after you snap the pic? The G7 I had stayed where I touched unless I hit another tab to disengage it. That always bothered me.
thanks

Consider the X-A7 seeing you use an iPhone a lot.

It is designed for phone shooters wanting a dedicated camera.Has the simulations of the X-E3 but a screen that goes everywhere.

It may be classed as "entry level" but its a highly capable camera that's lots of fun.

It doesn't have an EVF,however it doesn't need one.The screen is just the best!Shoot in full sun and it copes extremely well due to the 2.8ish million dots.

Its around 500 with the great little 15/45 making it super light for a ILC.

Yep, still unsure. I probably need to get to a store that has these cameras in stock. Tough to do in the middle on NE Iowa... thanks for all the responses.

Agree with the xe3 or XT30. If you can get it with the 18-55 and afford to get the xf 27 you will have a great little system. With the 27 you can easily put your camera in a backpack or waist hydration pack eg fanny pack. I carry my xe1 and 27 biking / hiking all the time. Also the XT30. You can usually find good grey market deals on the xf 27 or xf 18 out of Thailand for pretty cheap. I say get the kit 18-55 because it’s really a great all around lens and much more than just “kit”. To buy it separately will be a lot more. That said the xc 15-45 is also a good value that is often paired with the XT30. However it’s a quirky lens and no where near as good as the 18-55. That 27 is a great lens and would for your size desires.

You can very likely afford it and the IQ is just as good as with the acclaimed X-T4. With OIS lens you will not mis IBIS.

It did not really weight much when we trekked in Switzerland - or Israel. I have H1 but will not sell E3 - i like it, it is even pocketable (27f2,8 for that)

Even the video is usable. Bargain.

Actually, I was watching youtube videos on the X100 series of cameras,

I think you can't go wrong with any of the previous models of the X100.

X100 (original)

X100S

X100T

X100F

..

Cheers!

Get the XE-3 with the 18-55. You can add a prime later. Yes, the 18-55 is a very nice lens.

Small Fuji (XE, XTxxx, XTxx) plus 18-55 zoom.

I recently moved over to Fuji from M43 and in fact have the G7 and a GM1.

I got the XE3 and got it for the exact same requirements you are looking for.

It has fit the bill perfectly, there is so much you can do in camera and I shoot just jpeg. I barely do any editing in post.

One thing I loved about the G7 was the ergonomics and although the x-e3 is a different style I find it very comfortable in the hand.

I have got the kit with the 15-45mm and even though the zoom mechanism isn't the best it's a great lens and very good for close focus.

I also now have the xc35mm f2 which is very good and I will likely get the 27 just for when I want the smallest possible setup.

I actually turned off the touch screen though as I didn't find it to be that useful but the joystick is great.

You can double press it to get the focus back to centre which is useful. It also has an autofocus all setting which means you can change auto focus mode from singular to zone just using the joystick. I find this to be very useful!

I debated for a long time between the x-e3 and an x100 and settled for the former in the end due to size, ergonomics and flexibility with lenses.

I had an x100t some years ago and didn't bond with it.

Finally regarding autofocus speed, I use my camera a lot for photographing my busy toddler and it can keep up.

In short I like it a lot :-)

I rarely comment on any camera decision thread that limits the decision to this particular set of restrictions, but for you the answer is pretty obvious.

XT-30 w the little pancake or just get the 23 and 35 F2s.

But I really think you are restricting yourself on the size thing.

You really should get a used XT-3 and the 18-55. Then build from there as you discover a new passion.

I find it odd to tell someone his requirements are wrong. If he's looking for small and lightweight, the X-T100 series really fits the bill. Doesn't look like he needs a lot of zoom flexibility or anything.

I'm happy to see others recommending the X-T30 with the pancake -- that shouldn't be too much bigger or heavier than the X-T100 series, and he can use other lenses later if he decides he has a use for them.

I love the combination, and compared to my Nikon D90 with a big zoom, it's weightless.
