I'm born and bred in the UK.

But while we're on the subject, can I just say that it's annoying when reading a thread, to click on somebody's name to find out where they're from, only to find that they have not apparently bothered to supply this info when creating their account. I wonder if DPR staff can make this item mandatory?

S.
I don't care where anyone's from, and even though I say where I'm from, what if I didn't want to?

That would be stupid. Many would just lie anyway.

Are you from Earth?
No, from a galaxy far, far, far, far away
Than it has to be Antarctica?

Not Europe or Asia, not Australia, Africa, or Americas...

Maybe a small island country?

I am just kidding, of course ;)

But seriously, it would help understanding the posters and answering some questions if we new the country or the region they are from.
Why? Does physics change in different locations? Are A7r4's different in other places?
Not physics, but prices, retailers, product availability, etc.

And A7R4 and lenses and accessories will be priced differently, and menus may be in different languages...
Those who choose not to show their country in their profile - what are your reasons?
Should be obvious they consider it none of your business, some people choose to live privately .
Understandable... Maybe some are afraid they will be stereotyped based on their location or nationality? I can certainly understand that.
I just checked - around 90% of respondents are from USA, Europe, UK, Canada, and Australia. Looks like a "1st world" website...

Not fair to people who want to remain anonymous.

Uh...photography is mostly a first world hobby.
Far easier for OTHERS to post their location in their reply Header.
I'm interested and I'm sure "others" are too.

Huh?
Of course UK is part of the European Continent, though not a part of Continental (mainland) Europe.

Always has been and always will.
U.K. is an island that isn’t geographically part of Europe. It even has a different time zone .

Knew very little about photography when I decided to buy the awesome Nikon D70; learned quickly that this expensive camera didn't make me a good photographer.

Interesting poll. Thanks.

I can see the argument for breaking down Europe, but can also understand leaving it grouped. Interesting either way. When I was in high school with world geography and history classes the Soviet Union (and Russia) were not considered part of Europe. But I guess times change and maybe that had something to do with the politics of the day.

Anyhow, me personally? About 50 miles south of Amarillo, Texas. Grew up here, got out just as fast as I could after I finished school. Forty years later my family needed help and my employer was laying people off -- I wound up right back where I started, but with a lot better attitude about it.

I've always liked Amarillo but maybe that's because we're from Wichita Falls. :-)

We were at Palo Duro a few weeks ago.

I don't know if this poll has been conducted before but if it has, it is probably out of date.

Since joining these forums in September 2019, I have sensed that the majority of active members are probably from North America.

Not that it matters where a member is from, but curiosity has got the better of me.

I will start the ball rolling. I am from Melbourne Australia.

Options are in alphabetical order.
Why that extra mentioning of Russia and the UK? Both are nicely covered under the 'Europe' category.
the U.K. have left Europe
Maybe politically, but not geographically, and that is what it is about here.
Exactly right. Reputable sources widely agree that the UK is indeed geographically part of Europe.

Thanks for the fact check.

By the original definition, Germany is definitely not a first world country.

I disagree, NATO is the 1st world, Warsaw Pact was 2nd, & all others finished 3rd.

How white of us. :-(

The cameras that I have used are capable of selecting which you prefer. Also you can purchase from anywhere you want, not to say there will be an advantage in many cases.

There is nothing valid about this survey to conclude other than I'm wasting a little time while I'm doing laundry. :-)
I don't think OP intended this survey to be valid - just for fun.
Actually I was just trying to have a little fun, maybe my humor is a little to dry. :-)

P.S. still doing laundry. :-)

You think since camera phones came out that photography is not mostly a first world hobby?
Pretty much, the phone has brought photography to many more people.
Lots swapping photos who don't own computers, as one example.
Phones are seriously cheap in some parts of the world, and they all have cameras.
This part I didn't get. Were you responding to something else?
Just a general observation, too late for the O.P. to change this one.

They left EU, not Europe.

Just like Russia hasn't joined the European Union politically, but has always been part of Europe geographically.
Most of Russia is in Asia, actually.

From Bangladesh. I think not many people from my country follow dpreview.
