NASA chooses DSLR over MILC

Good luck with an Onion link around here. Satire is lost on so many.

The lens cap will melt away.

If i had to launch an object into the sun, a nikon and an iphone would be among my top picks too.

This way, there's no loss and also, it's a great recycling technique. Win-win really.

The reason is obvious. There is a physical mirror and shutter blocking the sensor. Otherwise, at close distances, the sun focused on the sensor could damage it.

They should've sent it to the sun at night, when it's not so hot.
Yeah, but the low light performance of that camera is not so great. You can clearly see noise at ISO 430000 with a 237% zoom.

It's the only way they could get rid of it so they could get a mirrorless. :-|

NASA was using 386 and 486 chips when the rest of the world had moved on to the second and third generation of AMD Athlon chips. It comes down to knowing specifically how something will work and not the newness of the technology.
