**This week with your Z6/7/50, Nov 30-Dec 6 2019**

For an (amateur) play in town I have been asked to provide a stage background photo of an old shed or barn. The photo will be printed 15+ feet wide. The hunt for the right motive was part of the fun. Did I succeed?

Old Barn
Fun project. Good choice of subject. I would not have used a zoom lens nearly wide open for this assignment, but from the point of view of the audience, It will probably make no difference. Was the camera on a tripod? Could you have stopped down a bit?

Nice shots of the deer but correct me if I’m mistaken....isn’t this supposed to be for images taken with a Z7, Z6 or Z50.
Quite correct. I mistakenly posted in the Z forum instead of the DXX forum. Can't seem to find a way to remove this though.

My apologies.

Ahh.. they are still cool images that is what the site is about 👍

This Staten Island is in the Central Valley in California, near Sacramento, not to be confused with the borough in New York City.

Nikon Z6 + 24-70mm/f4 S lens @ 70mm, f8, 0.5 sec, ISO 100, tripod
Nikon Z6 + 24-70mm/f4 S lens @ 70mm, f8, 0.5 sec, ISO 100, tripod
I'd like to see a lower-contrast version of this image.

No worries. Pretty much the same sensor as a Z7 after all. 😁

Hooray for VR, right? Nice shot. I like the evenly weighted midtones. Lovely expression of winter's prettier side.

This is the original NEF file scaled down to 1200 pixels across, with no other editing. I captured this image on Black Friday, November 29, 2019 at 5:07pm, about 15 minutes after sunset. The colors around the horizon were quite intense, but the clouds were pretty thick so that the upper part of the sky was quite dark.

If I further reduce saturation in PhotoShop, I can get something like this:

I have captured a lot of images of sandhill cranes at Statent Island, but I used my DSLRs so that they don't fit the theme for this thread.

Still contrasty, but dull now. So that's not it.

If you send me a link to the raw, I'll take a crack at it and post settings.

Thanks for the file. I couldn't do much with it; it is a very high-contrast scene. I think the only way to do what I wanted with it would be to use multi-shot HDR.

So I think you did a fine job with the development,.

Bought 85S on Black Friday. It's an outstanding lens - sharp and nice bokeh too.

All wide open -

Jim, thanks for the attempt. Not sure what result you are after. I am happy enough with that image as the way it is, although I wish I had colors in the entire sky rather than just a narrower strip along the horizon. But that is a matter of nature, rather than photography and post processing.

Man it was cold. 30mph winds and what must have been 15 degrees out. Vision started to blur and I was only out for about ten minutes waiting for the sunset. But it was worth it. Sure do love the z7 and 14-30 combo.
