The next challenge will be Highways, Byways and Streets. Lets show your collection of photos of what the world travels on, be it asphalt, brick, dirt or whatever. Cities, small towns or wide open spaces, crowded or empty, wide or narrow. Just about anything goes.

This challenge will wrap up on Tuesday, August 20 at 9 pm Pacific Time

Examples will follow. Hope to get a few more entries this week.

Challenge Rules

The host gives you a topic and you post up to three images that fit. Remember, it's all about fun, sharing, and learning. Any picture you have taken in person is eligible, regardless of time taken, camera or post-processing used. The host chooses the winners and honorable mentions and posts those in a new thread. The host's decision is final. The winner of this challenge then hosts the next challenge, judges the winner of that one, and so on it goes. The winner of this challenge will have 48 hours to post the next challenge. If that doesn't happen, 2nd place will have 24 hours to do so, then it's up to 3rd place.
Submission Posting Guidelines
Post each one of your three submissions in its own reply to this post. Give each post a unique Subject, please. It's best to embed an image in its post rather than linking to somewhere else. Feel free to post photos "for exhibition only" if you want to share more than three or won't be available to host the next challenge. Try to preserve the EXIF please, so we can see which camera, lens, and settings were used.
Comment Posting Guidelines
Feel free to post comments on the images or ask for comments. Don't hesitate to click on the green "Like" thumb on the top right of the post, so we know which images were most popular. The host can make up his or her own mind without being influenced by that.

My examples are from wide open landscape types, but I'm sure a lot of you have more interesting photos from metro areas and such. Anything goes. Looking forward to seeing them.

Now I'm competing with myself.

Taken in my home town of Whitefield, NH ... driving by the Mountain View Hotel as seen from a friend's 1931 Ford Model A Roadster.
I had some photos taken through the windshield and windows I was going to post for examples but couldn’t find them. Great example

An old dusty road somewhere in Arizona. There was a warning that if it starts raining, you will be stuck until it dries out. We drove for two hours, got scared by a few clouds, and came back.

A JPEG straight from the Rebel XT.

Been on many of those roads here in the southwest. The gullies and creeks you cross are the worst when it rains. I pulled many a fool out with my Jeep that didn’t heed the warnings and the weather.

In the interests of keeping this thing alive, I'll throw a few images into the mix...

The nature of the XXXD forum seems quite different than when I first joined up almost 10 years ago with my new rebel XS in hand. Maybe people aren't as interested in using forums as a means of image sharing and commentary, with the rise of social media and instagram in particular. Alternatively, many photography enthusiasts may have moved away from the entry level models in the canon line. Whatever the reason, it's a bit sad to see the diminished MC's, which was a lot of fun back in the day. For what its worth, I hope they continue...

Anyways, here are three recent photographs I took while on vacation in the mountains this summer which feature (in part) some roads. If you have the opportunity, I highly recommend a visit to the Canadian Rocky Mountains (just avoid the Lake Louise area in the middle of the day, the massive overcrowding has reached insane levels). The images are not my faves from the trip (and are perhaps a bit cliché) but hopefully highlight the feeling of driving and through the mountains.

Cheers,

Mike

I agree whole heartedly with your comments. Such a grand area to visit, beautiful country.

The Greek Island of Santorini has this one rather steep and winding road that goes from the top of the Island down to the waterfront. Easiest way to travel is via donkey, but I opted to walk ... big mistake.
